fucking hilarious; my fav is
“Awhh, Port Mafia got to him before us,” Dazai bemoans, then leans back and dodges a rock going at inhuman speeds.
Chuuya, in all his red hair and fancy jacket glory, stalks in, kicking another rock at Dazai that would surely tear through skin and shatter bone. As it is, Dazai dodges again, and it embeds four inches into the wall. A respectable length, to be sure, and it probably has a great personality. It was a lot to take in. Some would even call it large.
Chuuya does this little pose thing when he tips his hat down with a gloved hand while jerking his chin up a bit, but the excessive arm movements makes his jacket—which is just slung onto his shoulders, and not properly put on—slide off a bit, and he has to adjust it while holding his pose.

Chuuya brings them face to face with a hand on Dazai’s cheek. “You want to make me happy in a way no one else can.”
“Ah.”
“Ah?” Chuuya says hopefully.
Dazai pales, eyes light years away, recalling all past events in a different light.
Or: What happens when Dazai’s defenses consist of only “I hate Chuuya” and “Chuuya is [insert insult that's overused and funny to an audience of one (Dazai)]”
It’s been really interesting to read as they both grow into people that could be in a happy relationship together — Dazai who was inconsiderate and a childish brat becoming a better person for Chuuya because Chuuya doesn’t deserve assholes and Chuuya who used to date assholes because he liked Dazai (an asshole) becoming someone with better standards but still liking his men massively competent until it comes to him. In skk fics, it’s usually a lot of Chuuya accommodating and taking care of Dazai in their daily life. The way Dazai slowly learns to be that way (not just from Chuuya but also from everyone around them) for Chuuya while acting like nothing ever happened makes it really refreshing and fun to read. The writing is also really funny. Definitely deserves a reread.

Dazai hasn't stopped smiling, and Chuuya feels his temper rising at the fact that the guy still isn't ugly four years later.
Not ugly at fifteen and with braces, certainly not ugly at twenty-three without them.
Fuck.
Just Chuuya raging at Dazai’s growing attractiveness. idk why it’s so funny to me. Frankly, it’s injustice that there’s so many good scenes in this and my fav is this.

Summary

All is well until a certain mackerel enter his life, bringing his chaos (and his shitton of trauma) along. He's standoffish, with dead eyes and the smell of danger all over him.

“Stop,” Chuuya gripes, “god, you’re so fucking annoying, can’t you just listen to me and be still for five goddamn seconds?”
“Ew,” Dazai says, like Chuuya has asked him to do something reprehensible like believe in love or that he is worthy of forgiveness or the concept of tenderness without bite.
“Just—” Chuuya hisses as Dazai wriggles purposefully, the look on his face he gets when he knows he’s annoyed Chuuya nearly to breaking and wants to see him break, “fucking be good for me for five seconds. Be good.” Chuuya grips Dazai’s jaw hard as speaks, hard enough to bruise. He uses the voice he uses when he’s working, when people need to listen and they need to do it now.
He’s surprised when Dazai goes still underneath him.
Chuuya looks down at Dazai who is blinking up at him slowly, seemingly dazed. His fingers twitch where he had been idly playing with the hem of Chuuya’s shirt. Chuuya tilts his head and waits for Dazai to say something and Dazai says nothing at all.
Chuuya is fascinated.
“Dazai?” He whispers.

The Beast world will never stop being a tragedy. I love Souheki, I love their dynamic here, I love how Ranpo is written--the way he chooses logic over emotion even though his heart still tries to guide him. I think the writing style contributes to that; the playscript-like structure (I've never seen a playscript in my life, is this a journal article or observation diary or- I mean the title is that of a guide asdfglskf) and use of 2nd POV kinda captures the sense of derealisation and drift between logic and emotion in a way that's really fascinating. It’s one of those fics where I can reread and write a whole different lit analysis on it.
There's also such a tragic irony to Ranpo saying "I wanted to be his reason to live. But I wasn't enough." to Odasaku, whose memory and presence was so important and life-changing that Beast!Dazai prioritised him above all others, whose continued existence became Beast!Dazai's suicide mission. ARGHH my heart ;-;

It's been a few weeks since L'manberg became a place of memories, just a crater left in the ground, and Ranboo has moved up north to live with Phil and Technoblade. As the two 'brothers' get closer Techno begins to notice how Ranboo hunches, only making mining tunnels tall enough for others and building his house the same height as everyone else's. Technoblade and Phil, with some help from the rest of the SMP, help Ranboo learn to embrace his height and make accommodations for himself instead of forcing himself to water his height down around others.
