“Come on in, friend,” the man said, holding the door open to allow Owen to pass. Owen’s whole arm felt like it had been flooded with warmth, and it took him a second to realise that the kind words had been meant for him.

His parents had cut him out of their will and left him to fend for himself because he wasn’t sufficiently accomplished. Even without another heir to replace him, they’d decided he wasn’t worth the time or effort. No professor had ever taken notice of him either. He was a mediocre student. Not so incompetent to be remarkable, nor so brilliant to earn himself their admiration.
And now, he was a creature of the night, and he couldn’t even excel at that. He didn’t doubt that his Sire would soon grow frustrated with him and leave him for the villagers to tear apart. It was an inevitability, especially after he’d failed to control himself with Shelby. And yet, there was still hope in his cold, unbeating heart. Maybe if he just tried a bit harder, he could earn his Sire’s forgiveness.

The Codfather’s loose shirt is gone now, and while Scott certainly hadn’t expected that level of muscle definition, that isn’t what he’s focused on. Jimmy’s torso is littered with scars. They’re all over, some large and others tiny, some an aged white and others a shiny red. He gapes at them, confused—what had happened? Is the sea really that dangerous? He knows Jimmy’s clumsy, does it justify this?
“What happened to you?” he blurts out, and Jimmy turns to him, face a picture of confusion, before his eyes follow Scott’s gaze. Comprehension dawns and his face closes off.
“You know how it is,” he says coolly, and Scott is pretty sure he does not, in fact, know how it is.

Just the smallest flicker of eyesight showed the Mezalean King looking at them with the most confused face they had ever seen.

When an uncorrupted Xornoth woke up on the Mezalean shore line, they expected to get arrested or killed on sight. What they did not expect was for King Joel to drag them into the Matral Palace for in-law bonding.
They also didn't expect for Scott to be corrupted by Exor. And they also didn't expect themself to still be incoherent around Joey.
