Hatake Sakumo, the White Fang of Konoha, was sent to investigate or possibly eliminate the so-called Corpse Eating Demon sighted around the Konoha-Ame border to assuage the locals' worries of said monster. It was a relatively easy mission that the Hokage sent him as a breather after the back to back S to A rank missions. It was thoughtful of him, but with both Tsunade and Jiraiya going AWOL, he doesn't really have much of a choice but to pick up the slack.When he got there, instead of the supposed demon or a nuke-nin or even an ordinary gang of bandits, Sakumo finds a scruffy looking child with a scent that identifies him as a Hatake.

Kakashi is ten years old, nearing eleven, and he learns that he is an older brother. Of course, the child sleeping on that bed cannot be more than five years old, which makes him a couple of years younger than Kakashi.
