Shikamaru flinched slightly when Orochimaru pressed his cold fingertips to his temples.
He still couldn’t believe he was actually going through with it.
But if it was the only way to save Neji, he had no choice.
In his mind, he went over the hand signs once more—those he had practiced again and again over the past days.
He knew them perfectly.
But still, the fear of making a mistake now was overwhelming.
To help Neji, he had to choose the exact right moment. The perfect words.
What would he need to say to truly change Neji’s fate?
And then, suddenly, he heard Neji’s voice in his mind, calm and clear:
“Every freedom needs some kind of structure to truly feel like freedom. And I found mine in you.”
A warmth spread through Shikamaru’s chest, and all at once, the doubt vanished.
He knew exactly what his message would be.
He opened his eyes and gave Orochimaru a nod.
Orochimaru, unusually solemn, nodded back. Then he pressed his fingers more firmly to Shikamaru’s temples.

Shikamaru obeyed.

Shikamaru zuckte leicht zusammen, als Orochimaru ihm seine kalten Fingerspitzen an die Schläfen drückte. Er konnte nicht fassen, dass er es nun wirklich tat. Aber um Neji zu retten, blieb ihm nichts anderes übrig. Er ging im Kopf noch einmal die Handzeichen durch, die er in den letzten Tagen immer wieder geübt hatte. Obwohl er sie perfekt beherrschte, war die Angst groß, jetzt etwas falsch zu machen. Damit er Neji helfen konnte, musste er den perfekten Zeitpunkt wählen. Was musste er sagen, um sein Schicksal zu verändern? Da hörte er plötzlich wieder Nejis Stimme in sich: „Jede Freiheit braucht irgendeinen Rahmen, um sich wie echte Freiheit anzufühlen. Und ich habe meine Freiheit in dir gefunden.“ Ein warmes Gefühl breitete sich in Shikamarus Körper aus und auf einmal hatte er keine Zweifel mehr. Er wusste genau, was seine Botschaft sein würde.
Er öffnete die Augen und nickte Orochimaru zu. Dieser nickte, ausnahmsweise ernst, zurück und begann dann, mit den Fingern fest gegen Shikamarus Schläfen zu drücken. „Schließe deine Augen und fang an!“
Shikamaru schloss seine Augen. Das letzte, was er sah, waren Orochimarus große gelbe Schlangenaugen. Dann formte er die Handzeichen und aktivierte das Jutsu.Series

If it weren’t for his friends, Kakashi wouldn’t have survived the first hour. Not with his phobia of germs and blood – the aftermath of finding his father’s body – holding him back.
Sasuke was born weeks before the fall of civilization. Safe behind the walls of his family’s property, he had no reason to fear the zombies outside of it. Yet as the undead make their way in and life becomes less certain, his family’s ‘gifts’ soon threaten to become more of a curse.
And Naruto? Bitten but unturned, with the ability to walk amongst the undead, he’s hunted by those who want to use him to save humanity – or themselves. His gifts could either be their greatest hope. Or their biggest downfall.
