Summary
Neither Dave Strider nor Karkat Vantas, two halves of a recently married couple, have ever considered themselves particularly capable future parents. In fact, both men are downright mortified of the mere possibility. Unfortunately, they also share a stubborn obsession with doing the “right thing”, and the death of a distant Strider relative is the beginning of a journey they're not quite prepared to face.

Summary
After being told by his brother to get a “more respectable job”, failed freelance DJ Dave Strider chooses the only logical option. He enlists in Skaia City's fire academy and ends up at Station 413, where he works alongside his aforementioned sibling (and, coincidentally, his older cousin).
Karkat Vantas, meanwhile, is 413's notoriously no-nonsense captain, and his newest employee isn't just a thorn in his side. No, it's obvious from the start that Dave Strider is more like a festering wound in his otherwise flawless operation.

Dave Strider, 30, has a problem: His formerly comfortable life in New Alternia Hills has been slowly uprooted over the past three years. His sister, Rose, moved away and left him her old house three months ago. After what feels like a lifetime of trying to find a new friend group, he breaks down and lets his ridiculously wealthy twin pay for some convoluted "rent-a-friend" scheme.
Karkat Vantas, 25, needs $20,000 to pay off his student loans, and he thinks he's found a (mostly) painless way to do it. All he has to do is avoid falling for his (admittedly pretty hot) employer.
Clearly, nothing can go wrong here.

Summary
Karkat Vantas has always been too "soft" to be a troll. He feels too deeply and cares too much. Maybe that's why, after being left as a stationary pawn of the Alternian Empire, he starts to save the very people he's supposed to subjugate.
Dave Strider has always assumed that he exists to be the world's punching bag. When he's captured by an overzealous Alternian cop and brought before the Provincial Commander, he expects his life to end. Instead, it starts anew.

To his displeasure, this means he has to work with Dave Strider, another student at the university, who helps the school with media managment. Despite a rocky start, the two develop a friendship and stay in touch after the project, and something more blossoms between them.

Karkat Vantas is Her Imperious Condescension’s favorite General. For about eight sweeps (eighteen years) Commander Vantas has served as the Empress’ threshecutioner, he proved himself and climbed the ranks. Now he was in charge of his own fleet, colonizing planets for the Alternian empire. For the past two and a half sweeps (five years) he has been taking a hold on a planet called Earth, which is simple enough. Except for a pesky resistance taking hold in his chosen global capital city. Led by some humans known by the name “Strider.”
Karkat has a plan on how to deal with them, though when his idiot subordinates bring him the wrong Strider, he has to revise it.

Dave Strider is a 26 year old trying to help his brothers with their revolution against the Alternian colonization effort. He doesn't get to do much, he mostly helps set up, or writes protest raps, or spray paints dumb caricatures of the troll leadership onto the sides of buildings.
But being relatively uninvolved doesn't mean he's safe.

Summary
Dave Strider is a celebrated film director running on exhaustion, deadlines, and borrowed caffeine. Every morning, he hides in an overpriced coffee shop, writing scripts and pretending he is just another customer. Karkat Vantas is the assistant manager who keeps that café standing through sheer force of will, sharp words, and unpaid emotional labor.
When Dave shows his gratitude in an unusual way, and the morning snowballs further, Dave flees. Karkat stays behind. Both of them are left with the echo of something that mattered more than either expected.
Months later, exhaustion drags Dave back through the café doors and into Karkat’s orbit. When Dave learns how under appreciated Karkat is, Dave opens a door into the film world. Karkat steps through it and proves he belongs there. On set, chaos becomes craft, exhaustion becomes shared, and control finally stops being lonely.
This is a story about labor and art, about being seen without being used, about second chances that are earned rather than gifted. And about accidentally saying “I love you” over fries, when you finally stop running long enough to mean it.
