FAR too many favorite bits but here’s a VERY abbreviated selection:
His voice was always so gravely, like he’d smoked two packs and was reaching for a third.It was almost as if he fell into himself by degrees, living in a haze that sharpened slowly, slowly, until he was bustling about in France like nothing had ever been different.
That was Draco’s preference. Better that when the boy hero of the British Wizarding World invited himself into Draco’s home, that he be as silent and clueless as possible.
He watched Potter mouth the word before he heard it, or perhaps precisely in lieu of it. Green, and unforgivable.
Potter was strangely silent getting ready for bed, all little rituals, shaggy hair and worn t-shirts and askew glasses. Even seeing the Lumos he set over the mattress—fluffed up until passably suitable—felt too intimate. Like peeling away all the myth to just find a boy. Draco kept feeling like he had to look away.
Draco got drunk at Belgian bars and thought of Potter’s body. He snogged strangers in the loo and thought of Potter’s mouth.
Potter was killing him in more way than one, and Draco had no sense of what to do about it.He was a mess of a man. It didn’t help that Potter was beneath him, doing things to him with his eyes, with his body, making him abandon all reason.
Let him look. Draco’s eyes roved over Potter’s familiar, prickish face; insatiable.This one moment that mattered more than everything, something absurd, something good, a want that eclipsed all want: Potter pressed against him like it allowed them both to breathe.
Sometimes Draco wondered how someone so unbearably unfashionable could have ascended to the heights of magic that he had. It simply didn’t make sense.
