Summary
Stiles spent a summer in New Orleans and ended up becoming friends with the Mikaelson’s, who later saw him as a member of their family. And as such, whenever there is a threat against a member of their family the Originals are not going to stop until it has been dealt with. It starts off as Stiles is pushed out of the pack because he is human, a weak link, and always in danger. Not knowing how to handle the sudden loss of all his friends, he calls one of the Originals to talk to one of the only friends he still has. Pissed off by what happened to Stiles, the Mikaelson’s make a trip to Beacon Hills to keep an eye on him, and maybe cause a little trouble while. Who knows, they might even fall in love.

Kaz's friends keep him in a room to pressure him into giving them information about his powers. It's stated that Kaz could get out of the room if he tried but that doesn't excuse trying to keep him in there in the first place, and even if someone is physically capable of escaping they might be too scared or anxious to try escaping. Depending on how upset they are, they might not be able to remember escaping is an option. Kaz is used to working under pressure and under threat, but not when the threat comes from friends. The threat coming from people he cares about also eliminates violence as a method of escape even though that would probably be the most effective option. If someone can escape but they have to hurt someone they care about to do so is escaping really an option. Even if Kaz was willing to hurt his friends to escape he'd have to consider how they would react after. They were trying to keep him somewhere against his will so hurting them to escape would be self defense but they might get angry at him and ignore their own wrong doing or claim it was for his own good or something similar even though that doesn't excuse what they did or make Kaz's defending himself any less acceptable. They could cut him out of their lives or expect him to apologize or make it up to them by answering their questions they don't have a right to answers to in the first place. If he doesn't escape or he does and they don't get angry or cut him out of their lives I've gotta assume any trust he had in the crows would take a serious hit and any emotional turmoil he went through while being locked up by them wouldn't help. I can't imagine Kaz having healthy relationships with anyone in this story unless they recognize how they wronged him, admit to him, apologize and change their behavior. Inej figures out something about Kaz's powers and tell the others without Kaz's permission. Nina talks down to Kaz telling him he has to use his powers so he doesn't get sick but it's Kaz's health, how he takes care of it or doesn't take care of it is his choice. Nina asks Kaz a question about his powers and when he doesn't answer assumes he doesn't know and she seems to think this supports her belief Kaz needs to be trained. She tells him she's going to teach him and ignores his attempt to refuse telling him it's non negotiable. She has no right to make that decision for him. Also, when Inej tells Kaz no one's going to tell anyone about his being a grisha and no one's going to make him go to ravka Nina starts to protest. Either she wants to reveal to people Kaz is a grisha or more likely she wants him to go to ravka and doesn't much care about what Kaz wants. When Nina decides she's going to teach Kaz, Jesper uses his powers to prevent Kaz from leaving the house and when Kaz meet Nina the others search for him, presumably to make him go. When Inej finds him she tells him Nina's just trying to "help" him but helping is assisting someone wth something they want with their permission. Not only does Nina not have Kaz's permission to help him, but the thing she's "helping" with ( learning how to use his powers ) is something he never said he wanted in the first place. This fanfic bothers me so much I'm bookmarking it so I won't come across it later, think it looks interesting and read it only to get upset again.

Inej stays away for 2 years but when she gets back and Kaz doesn't go to see her for a week she gets angry, goes to see him and upon her first time seeing him, bitterly (the text says Kaz thinks there's a bitter tone to her voice) complains about his not taking the time to go see her even though she went 2 years without going to see him. Kaz starts to respond “Inej –” and Inej interrupts
“Don’t Inej me, Kaz!” - what the hell is that supposed to mean? All he did was address her by name, what exactly is the problem with that? Kaz apologizes and says he has no excuse (presumably for not visiting her) to which Inej responds “Damn right you don’t, Kaz! I don’t know what I was thinking expecting that you would at least come see me. Saints forbid Kaz Brekker take five minutes from his day to come greet me at the docks”. First of all, it's only been 1 week that Inej has been home and Kaz has avoided going to see her. Inej has been gone for two years. There are about 104 weeks in 2 years which means Inej hasn't visited Kaz for 104 times as long as he hasn't visited her. If an apology is to be made, and an excuse given, why shouldn't they both come from Inej? Secondly, when Kaz apologizes to her, his first time speaking after being interrupted, he starts off by saying her name again which sparked the thought that maybe he had been trying to apologize when Inej angrily interrupted him. Third, Inej's "Damn right you don't" agreement in response to Kaz saying he has no excuse implies both that she already knows he doesn't have an excuse, and that she's angry about it. No matter how well she knows him she can't know for sure what's going on in his mind, therefore she can't be certain there isn't something mental or emotional going on to prevent him from meeting her. As for wether or not he had the spare time to see her earlier, the only way she could know that is if she had gotten close enough to spy on him in which case she could've just visited him then instead of waiting. If she didn't spy on him herself then she can't be positive he was available, implying that she just assumed he couldn't have anything important enough to keep him away from her. Inej let her work keep her away from Kaz for 2 years and while her aims are noble, this implies not only that she sees Kaz's ambitions as less important than hers, which is somewhat understandable since they're different people, but that she expects him to value his work less than she does hers. Fourth, since Inej lives and works on a ship and Kaz lives and works in a city, for the 2 years she's been away Inej has had full control over wether or not Kaz gets to see her and has chosen to stay away, rarely writing to him. Then when she returns she expects Kaz to be the one to visit her. If she's the one to decide when to return to land, then it should be her responsibility to visit Kaz. Fifth, similarly to visiting her during the week, meeting her at the docks requires him to give up time and attention from his work to see her and show support. By itself this isn't a bad thing but Inej doesn't seem willing to meet him half way. Sixth, she mentions expecting Kaz to come see her and thinking that's a possibility is fine. What's not fine is her reaction when he doesn't meet her even though he never agreed to. It was an expectation that existed in, and never left, her head. Her feeling a little hurt anyway is fair. Her expressing anger at him is not. At one point she yells “Do you even have anything to say to me?!”. This is after both her interrupting him and his misplaced apology. It's only after Kaz admits he wanted to go see her she "slightly" softens her tone and bothers asking why he didn't. When I read that part I was just like, seriously? You couldn't have just calmly asked him from the start? Kaz thinks of Inej as always loving, always patient, but she starts the story angry, is quick to yell, doesn't communicate, gets upset with Kaz for doing something she did too (not visiting) and blames Kaz for a situation they both contributed to (the situation being not seeing each other for a week after she arrived). The Inej of this story is hypocritical and seems like she expects Kaz to put more into the relationship than she is willing to. Kaz doesn't call her out on, or even seem to realize what's wrong with what she says and does. He feels guilty about having trouble with touch, and thinks she deserves better than him. The way it comes across to me is his guilt and sense of not being good enough for her lead to him giving more in the relationship than she does, not recognizing its unequal nature, accepting fault for problems (rightly so or not) and taking on responsibility better shared. The way they're portrayed in this fic is concerning and the idea of something sexual happening between these 2, especially Kaz's first experience, is vaguely stomach turning. I imagine things would get worse down the line. -
