The gesture served two purposes: a greeting, certainly, but also a momentarily stronger connection to the vibrations in the metal, giving Shaak a more precise peek at the intruder’s heartbeat and rate of breathing.

    Reassuringly, both slowed a touch. And then, more reassuringly, the stranger bowed back: one hand held up flat, the other folded into a fist before they pressed together, and then a perfectly precise bend of ninety degrees from the waist, even deeper than Shaak Ti’s own.
