Remus is accosted by a vampire on his way home. Strange in itself. But when the vampire realises he has anaemia, he starts bringing him food. And medication. And nice little treats to make him feel better.
And - well. Remus never claimed to be a man of strong convictions.

Because Remus gives good hugs, and makes tea somehow taste better, and he knows when to speak and when to tease and when to stay quiet. His fingers when they tangle in Sirius’ hair are more than soothing. His presence in their small flat makes it feel like home.
If Sirius has been in love with him for a better part of the decade… well that’s his own business and nobody else’s. He’s even kept it from James. The only thing he’s ever successfully kept hidden, so James didn’t know what it meant when he said “I’m moving in with Lily” and “it’ll just be the two of you” and “take care of him, yeah?”

Sirius puts a hand on Remus' face.
Thumb stroking his jaw. He knows those hands. He knows them well. But on the heated skin of Remus' face, they're suddenly new, because they've never been there. In the absolution of his touch, he's momentarily whole. He feels, through Sirius’ palm, tremors.
“What if..?” His eyes are dilated, black eating away at gray. “What if I want it to be?”
War hero Remus Lupin has always categorized his unrequited love for Sirius Black, his roommate of ten years, as background noise. Ubiquitous, but ultimately, ignorable. But during a week-long June heatwave in which lines are blurred, thresholds are crossed, and Lily and James’ housewarming looms ever closer, Remus realizes he’s wrong. Remus stares pointedly back into his book. He knows he won’t be able to look at Sirius and not cave.
“Remus, darling,” Sirius starts with a teasing melodrama, effectively punching Remus in the stomach. “You have got to start talking to me again.” Don’t look at him. “Because someone used a sticking charm on the Potters and they physically cannot be parted. Peter is snogging now, and all the girls hate me.”
‘You’re better company than being completely alone, I guess,’ is what Remus hears. It’s better this way.
“And I miss you,” Sirius adds quietly.
