Summary
Once, Gator Tillman had figured himself a big man in a small world. A powerful man. A winner.
No longer. Now he knew better. After everything, it was hard to know anything else. The sad, pathetic truth was that Gator Tillman wasn't shit. Not a big man, not even a small one. Barely a fucking person at all.
After an accident leaves him permanently injured, Gator leaves Stark County for Chicago. On his own for the first time, jobless and in constant pain, he seeks out relief in drugs. While small-time dealer Eddie Munson's prices are fair enough, drugs are expensive, and Gator soon finds himself unable to pay. Fortunately for him, Eddie is more than willing to accept an alternative form of payment.
And maybe Gator is all too willing to offer it up.
What starts as a means to an end quickly becomes the end itself as Gator finds himself relying less and less on the drugs to take his pain away... and more on Eddie.

Now that Steve’s not bathed in the otherworldly light of the Upside Down, he looks fucking awful – nothing at all like when Dustin last saw him on the shore of Lovers’ Lake – and when Dustin grabs him by the shoulders and pushes him back down against the mattress, Steve doesn't put up a fight, which honestly does not make Dustin feel any better.
Or: It’s strange how fast things started to spiral once Steve began going on dates again, looking for that one perfect girl, and Dustin joined up with the Hellfire Club.

He could feel Frodo’s eyes on him, but Sam kept his gaze steady on the far-off horizon. Somewhere, he hoped, the armies of Rohan and Gondor and all the kingdoms of men were gathered. He hoped that he and Frodo hadn’t been too late. Sam hoped a lot of useless things.
“Your laughter, Mister Frodo.” Sam’s voice was rough from smoke and the building tears in the back of his throat. He closed his eyes, and tried to remember the sound of Frodo’s laugh. The shape of his smile- how it formed dimples in his cheeks and made his eyes crinkle up into little crescents. It had been so long, the memories felt faint and dreamy, like something Sam had imagined long ago. Once, a lifetime past, Frodo’s smile was Sam’s favorite thing in the widest world. More beautiful than any flower he could grow in the garden, brighter than any of Gandalf’s fireworks cracking open in the sky. “I loved to hear you laugh, sir,” Sam whispered, and he felt a tear trace down his filthy cheek.

“Bag End's garden.” Sam spoke with a cracked voice. Frodo's smile stretched further. “The smell in the air of full bloom. All your favorites, just how you like ‘em best.” Frodo let his eyes fall shut. He could almost smell it on the harsh wind whipping insistently around them.
