Sirius likes Remus; Remus sees Sirius just as a friend. Remus likes Sirius; Sirius is very busy fingering witches in empty broom cupboards. Sirius comes out as queer; Remus is taken by an assortment of girls – and then boys, Gods help him – to Hogsmeade. Sirius loses his temper and sets Moony on Snape; Remus avoids him for half a year, makes new friends, and shags Benjy Fenwick. A lot.
Or, over the summer of 1977, Sirius visits Remus in Wales. He needs a little convincing that he's the love of his life, you see.
