Leaving aside the whole thing about being homosexual, bisexual, lesbian ect, it was no secret to anyone that the human world was governed by natural reproduction between men and women. Regardless of those who want to impose thoughts of artificial fertilization or sex changes. No! men have sperm, women have ovules. Period.
But the world behind the world, or better known as the world of the yokai, could have characteristics quite different from the human world.
One of them was that it was not limited to reproduction only between male and female.
The Yokai had their own hierarchy in terms of reproductive chain, and at the top of the pyramid were the "Alphas", who could reproduce and leave offspring without being limited to the primary gender of the other individuals.
Such evolutionary dynamics was something Draxum always had in mind for his creations, with the purpose of using any potential offspring for future experiments.

In Donatello's world, there were a few constants:
1: Don't leave leftovers at the table unless you're fine with Leo/Mikey/Raph licking the plate clean.
2: Every Saturday, you will engage in your thumb war with Leo for eldest twin rights. And you will WIN this time, because a four week losing streak is just embarrassing.
And 3: Donatello was the most intelligent being to ever live.
While that may be hubris--Donnie wouldn't deny that--the softshell had examined all the records, taken all the online tests, had even hacked into a few Korean colleges, and as far as Donnie could tell, his brain took the cake.
Therefore, every decision he made was the inarguable RIGHT DECISION. It was just logic. And, yes, that was including his decision to bring that oozesquito he'd found into his lab for a little studying. The bite he'd gotten was... just an outlier. And besides, nothing had happened. He was already mutated anyway; the mutagen was ineffective.
Sure, yeah, his health had rapidly declined in the two days since then, but... there was NO WAY that had anything to do with that.
Because Donnie was smarter than that.
And everything would be... fine.

Donnie has everything perfectly under control. Sure, sometimes he hears the voices of those who aren't there, and sometimes he's not in control of his own body- but those are easy fixes. He's fine, dare he say even better than fine! He's so fine that he even constructed a portal to other dimensions in case the Krang come back! It's not like he worked endlessly, almost obsessively, over the portal for days, missing sleep and family trying to talk to him.
He's fine!
He's even fine when the portal swallows him whole and spits him out into a new universe with nothing but his battle shell and clocking broach.
One with alternate versions of him and his brothers, just starting out and fighting their own version of Kraang and bad guys. He's even fine when he gets dragged into their upcoming battles and fights. He's going to get home anyway; what's the harm in helping out his alternate family fight against Kraang?
