The man’s eyes finally lock on to his target and he grins, feral and predatory. He raises his hand… and points. Directly at Charon.

Chronic shut-in Charon is dragged to a concert by his twin brothers, where by happenstance a kind beautiful stranger bursts into his life. Charon would be content to scuttle back to his quiet house and forget the whole evening, but this determined acquaintance won't let him go so easily.

Charon's usual quiet weekend is interrupted by being strong-armed into ferrying Melinoë to a cat café. He's prepared to spend a couple of hours being a silent bodyguard and handy bank balance for sweet treats and hot chocolate. What he's not prepared for, is the gorgeous barista also waiting for them every visit.

There was far too much green below. He jerked himself away, ankle wings fluttering desperately. He cannot fail now, he cannot—
He paled as he remembered that the rift was Poseidon’s domain, not Charon’s.

I am Zagreus, prince of the Underworld, god of blood and rebirth.” He winks at him. “Sorry you had to see me come out of the Styx like that—I’m usually much more put together. And as for why I’m helping you…” Something in his bearing shifts, changes from the casual front he was putting on to something much more serious. “That’s your mother that Hades is holding, isn’t it?”
Percy flinches. “What do you know about my mom? Is she okay? She’s not…”
“She’s perfectly fine.” Zagreus says in an unexpectedly reassuring tone. “I promise. She’s not a shade, she’s just being held in stasis.”
Relief flows through him, but… “What does that have to do with why you’re helping us, though?” He’s reminded of the saying Annabeth told him after he received the pearls from Poseidon: never trust a free lunch.
Zagreus meets his eyes. “I know a thing or two about going on an impossible quest to find one’s mother, son of Poseidon.”

What if Zagreus emerged from the Styx in the middle of Percy's confrontation with Hades in the Lightning Thief?

He can imagine it. Zagreus walking down the great halls of the great House of Hades, clusters of shades looking at the pink lip stains and whispering to each other: “do you see that?” “That’s Megaera’s lip color!” “Have the two of them been… you know?”
He imagined Megaera would feel pride well up in her chest. Her leaving those marks were the equivalent of an owner putting a collar on a dog: she was claiming him, showing anyone around who he belonged to. They would see those marks and know who had him, who loved him. And sweet Zagreus would be all flustered, remembering how those markings came to be, and the idea that everyone else knew as well.
Then, an idea popped into his head. A very exciting, mischievous, lovely idea.
