Summary
Tom Riddle, Hogwarts’s beloved Defense professor, doesn’t know what happened to his top student Harry Potter over the summer, but by Merlin he’s going to find out. The normally brash and cheerful boy is now jumpy and haunted-looking, refusing to make eye contact in class and avoiding him in the corridors. Tom has seen enough traumatized and abused magical children to recognize the signs, and he won’t rest until he’s helped Harry and ensured his safety, just as he’s done for so many before him.
Meanwhile, Harry doesn’t know how he woke up in a parallel universe where the Dark Lord is teaching Defense and has the whole world hoodwinked. But he’s the savior, damnit, and he’s going to protect this world—and his now-alive parents—even if he has to do it alone. No matter what unconventional tactics Voldemort is using now.
A story of good intentions, miscommunication, and straight-up shenanigans.

Harry is looking forward to a summer free of Sirius Black. And he gets it—but not without his Defense tutor, who has begun to study esoteric magic, giving Harry the bad news that he’s a Horcrux. The race is on to remove the Horcrux from Harry and defeat Voldemort. Because the one thing Harry’s not going to do is die.
(Note: the rating is for violence).
This is the sixth entry in my “These Creatures” series, following “Creatures of Worth,” “Creatures of Pride,” “Creatures of Strength,” “Creatures of Truth,” and “Creatures of Faith.” Don’t try to read this without reading those first. As well, be advised that this is an extremely dark fic.

There is a picture in one of the books of a worn young man, heavily scarred with gentle eyes. Remus Lupin, he is identified as. The man who was watching Charles, and presumably Harry. The man who died defending them. Harry traces his fingertips over the man’s face and wonders.
And then he stops, and reels all those thoughts into a tangled knot and tucks it away.
They didn’t want him; that’s fine. He doesn’t want them either.

Summary
Little Whinging, Surrey is a place where individuality goes to die. Row after row of identical houses line the streets with pristine, white picket fences and perfectly pruned hedges and house perfectly normal families. Those who live on Privet Drive are no exception to this.
But there is one little boy who does not fit into that mould.
Little Hari Potter, who has befriended snakes and knows their ways, hears his neighbors whispering of things he wanted them to notice and says, “Aunt Petunia, did you hear? Mrs. Number Six thinks we’re too poor to afford clothes for two children. I heard her talking about asking the neighbors for donations for us. Isn’t that nice of her? I know that I’m a huge burden on you all, so I’m glad that someone is stepping up to help out.”
And that simply will not do. The Dursleys care more for their reputation than anything else, and so things slowly but surely begin to change as a result.

And it's the story of Dudley Dursley who is determined to squash bullies, be polite, and do the best he can at--well, everything. He's going to learn languages and battle maths and end up working at Grunnings with his brother. And everything will be totally brill.
This is a story of book clubs and bridge, parseltongue shenanigans and owl-backed child mafias, of all the things that happen while they're not at Hogwarts-- and all the stuff that does.
It's a story about Harold the Normal. He's here to learn magic and go home... because the rest of his life is waiting for him.
