Because for some ungodly reason all they seem to care about is Whitebeard's newest son, Ace.
(Ace is very confused and has never met these people in his life.)
Or: The Strawhats will always only bow to one king, and Whitebeard is not that man. Unfortunately for everyone, that man is nowhere to be found.

Dazai’s next words are a suckerpunch. “You want our little hellhound to choose you.”
If he doesn’t open his eyes, he can pretend the cool trails working down his cheeks are from the wind.
The night is so full, the city never quite sleeping, but in this tiny bubble the silence is a scream Atsushi can’t shut out.
“Maybe,” he says after too long, his voice thick and hollow, “Just once, I want someone, anyone, to give a flying fuck about Atsushi.”

He's shaking. Goddamnit, Kuwabara is shaking. Yusuke is furious. Mr. Sensitive, doing that stupid thing with his empathy when it is the least convenient for everyone.

His mom is propped against the counter with the window wide open and a cigarette between her fingers, opening her mouth to idly watch the curls of smoke wisp out and up before they're blown apart by the ceiling fan.
