Summary
Jean-Luc Picard stared at his face in the mirror. The dark circles under his eyes were unusually pronounced, likely a result of the harrowing missions of the past week. They were over now, and Picard was happy to coast through space at low warp doing nothing of interest. Unfortunately for him, interest seemed to follow Picard like a stray cat who had gotten attached to him through no fault of his own.
Suddenly, there was a loud shimmering pop, a thud, then the sound of coughing. It took a couple seconds for Picard’s brain to process what had happened, though most of them involved the stages of grief. Picard sighed, then moved to exit the washroom.
The doors slid open to reveal his quarters, now occupied by a tall figure laying on the floor in the fetal position. He was naked, shivering violently and coughing at irregular intervals.
“Interest,” thought Picard, “thy name is Q."
Q is human and sick. Picard is tired. Shenanigans ensue.

Summary
Based on "A Trekkie's Tale" by Paula Smith, 1974. Originally published in "The Menagerie".
Mary Sue, 15.5 year old prodigy and the youngest Lieutenant in the fleet. Mary Sue, paragon of virtue and beloved by all. Mary Sue, the perfect fusion of logic and emotion.
It takes a lot of work to keep up that façade, but Mary Sue is up to the challenge. She is sure to follow the path that she lays out for herself, no matter how much others have to sacrifice to keep her on her way.
And yet, in the end, it all collapses. Hubris, her killer.
"Bugger," thought Mary Sue.

Summary
"Martin did not think a single thought in that moment. The emotion of what he had just done was too strong to process, and the adrenaline that pumped through his veins let him focus on nothing but his beating heart. His beating heart and… Jon’s?
Martin opened his eyes to Jon’s gasping breaths and a harsh chill wind. They knelt in a rolling field of tall grass bordered with dense orange forests. The sky was open and dark blue, dotted with rolling clouds turned cotton candy hues by the slowly receding sun."
Martin and Jon have made it to the end of MAG 200. They have made it to... somewhere else. What if somewhere else was the Shire?

Summary
"Legolas aimed for the head in most things. It was the quickest way to kill, and the least likely to mangle. Few creatures on this earth could sustain such a blow.
Aragorn, however, aimed for the heart. Swords were much more efficient through the heart than the head, the thick skulls of most creatures providing copious resistance."
Aragorn and Legolas are deep in the forest, hunting to feed the Fellowship. Aragorn learns that Legolas cares for him more than he thought.

Summary
The Ring has begun to speak to Frodo. It tells him terrible things, and gives him nightmares and day-mares. It forces itself into his thoughts and tells him of his guilt, of not using the Ring for power. It desires to weaken him, to hurt him until he falls and fails, and passes the Ring onto one more corruptible. The Ring leads Frodo to self harm, to mutilate his body to serve it and to pay his Debt.
He can feel it. He can feel the Ring's hands on his shoulders and back. He can feel it pushing, pushing with no force, pinching with no hands, seeing with no eyes. He learns truly how painful bearing the Ring can be.
Sam tries to help him, oh, he does. It's a long road to recovery, but Sam will stay by Frodo's side, kissing his shaking hands. The urges only get stronger as Frodo approaches Mordor. Recovery is not easy, oftentimes more difficult than submitting to the Ring's wretched power. But he tries. No, they try. They try together, fighting the Ring's chokehold on Frodo's brain, wresting it from control.
And then, together, after all is said and done, they are left with burns and scars, to gently treat. Those of physicality and nightmare, to face. Together.

I struggle with my mental health, and therefore my ability to write. As the Seasonal Affective disorder sets in (atop my regular depression), my cognitive capacity takes a nosedive, which makes writing difficult. Day One: All Trussed Up & Nowhere to Go (parts 1 & 2)
Day Two: Talking is Overrated part 1
Day Three: Talking is Overrated part 2
Day Four: Sticks & Stones & Other Woes part 1
Day Five: Trust Fall(Into a Well)

Summary
Frodo is trapped between a ring and a knife. He chooses the knife, then is forced to choose the ring. The Ring is an entity, built to torment the Ringbearer and feed off of his suffering. Frodo's anxieties and fears mix with the blood gold of the Ring, leading him to fantasies that soon turn to torment. Blood is not enough. Blood alone is not ever enough.
This Halloween one-shot was made possible by mental illness and a lovely walk on which I thought of the idea.
