Aemond wants to feel sorry for himself, but Rhaena Targaryen has to be the most unlucky girl in the world, and he feels a little bad about his part in her misfortune. Just a little. Mutilation is not the best starting point for a friendship, or a marriage, or any kind of relationship, really, but Aemond is an expert at making do.

The exchanging of cloaks had been nothing. Mother made them practice it extensively at home; Aemond would take off Helaena's cloak and then Aegon would cloak her in the exact same colors. They were not the same damned cloak, mind you, but two completely different pieces of fabric that Aegon had to make sure not to mix because then Mother would make them do it again and again and again. You have to treat this cloak with care, Aegon, their mother had snapped at the end of the day, every bride in this family has worn it since the time of your namesake. By the time he cloaked Helaena for real he felt like he had been married to her a dozen times already.
Aegon and Helaena's wedding day in five stages, or Alicent's trauma as echoed first by Aegon, her eldest son and heir.
