Summary
“A fellow poet?” He echoed absently, before a dazed smile took place. “She thinks I'm a poet?”
Kakashi rolled his eyes to the heavens.
“That's not the point, Gai. It made me think about it, and—” He frowned, dropping his hand from his chin to lay it over his other on the table between them. “Why aren't you? With someone like you? I watch you thrive when Lee returns your energy to you, you clearly enjoy it.”
Gai’s smile diminished, and his brow furrowed as he grew more serious and leaned into his own crossed arms over their shared table. He looked Kakashi up and down, silent and oddly analytical.
“Kakashi. Are you really asking me right now… if I settled..?”
Kakashi blinked.
“Um… well. I wasn't—aware that I was. But... Yeah. I guess so.”
Gai’s squinted eyes only narrowed more. He planted his hands on the table between them, rising to a kneel as Kakashi braced himself for whatever theatrics were about to unfold.
“You really, truly wonder if I settled? For the greatest Jonin in Konoha?”
“I'm not thee greatest, Gai—”

Summary
Kakashi toed off his sandals at the door of his apartment, and let the door click shut behind him. His attention swayed over the sofa as he turned the lock.
“Rival! There you are! I’ve made us some crispy pork belly and rice. It seemed delicious enough, yet easy on the stomach after your long mission.” Kakashi looked up at the sound of Gai’s voice, and was met with his easy smile and warm, familiar eyes. They were crinkled in joy from his greeting, but they slowly smoothed as Gai’s face fell a fraction. He looked Kakashi up and down, before searching him more closely.
“...What’s wrong?” Gai asked, joviality melting away at sensing something was off with him. Kakashi debated spilling out all of his inner noise; all of his mental monologue that had only repeated for hours now over much of a failure of a teacher he was, and how he’d let every single one of his students be so close to death today, when he’d been right there.

He let an eye open lazily, and lolled his head to the side as though only just waking up.
Empty. It was only him.
Though the sight that greeted him was enough to make his stomach drop, as he noted exactly where he was. The sound of Danzou hadn't been out of place.
He was at the Foundation.
For some ungodly reason he couldn't think of.
Kakashi threw the blanket back, swinging his legs over the bed to plant himself firmly against the floor, before noticing his hands were different, too.
Younger. Not as scarred.
He flexed his fingers, feeling the nimble lightness of them. The feather-light sensitivity he'd once had in them, gone but back again, to before he'd deadened some of the nerves in his hands from using Chidori over time.
“Hound.”
The name sent an almost-electric strike of attention through him. An expression of order he hadn't answered to in years.

Two lines.
Five sets of them, in fact.
Sakura blinked at the stark, undeniable pink stripes in her hand, glancing to the matching four other tests she’d taken throughout the night, and swallowed the worm of anxiety she’d been fighting that curled and twisted in her belly.
She needed someone to tell. Someone she could talk to, who could talk her back down to being calm. A level head. A steady voice against her own that she knew would shake when she said it out loud for the first time.
She spread her hands over her face, inhaling a counted breath and holding it before releasing slowly. She did it again for good measure, scrubbing her hands over her eyes before dropping them to stand upright and wrench the bathroom door open. She grabbed her keys by the door, and opened it to step into the night.

A fic in which Sarada comes about differently, where Sakura discovers she's pregnant after she comes back to the village. She has more of a support system than she thought, though.
(Eventual Sakura slowly moving in with Kakashi and Gai as her pregnancy continues. kakagai is honestly more prominent for a bit than sasusaku LMAO but it's still primarily about Kakashi and Sakura)

Yeah, that sounded good.
