Eden had long used children for war, they were easy to train, and easier to indoctrinate when they were born and raised in a nursery. Eden was more than fine with the knowledge they were sending kids to die, after all, they all became soil?But what COI had laws to stop trials/convictions for minors? How could Eden get around that?
Simple: If your calendar years are half that of the COI, your 15-year-old becomes 30, and you have “righteous” anger aplenty to point right back at the COI.
If a few kids have to die to make ends meet? Well, It's just bigger than us.
(OR I wanted to write a fic where Simon is actually just a really fucking scared and traumatized child, because Mark you hurt me with that ending so name Simon will get hugs.)

Ship 3, the single ship of the SEEDS fleet that had remained intact, took victims into their medical facilities in droves from nearby ships that were not so lucky in the early days after the Big Fall. One of the heavily wounded that came in overnight after most of the searches were coming up empty would change everything.
Rem Saverem had survived the apocalypse.
(A mix of all canons. Mostly Stampede-setting, but Trigun Maximum and '98 anime elements, as desired). - If some elements of Stargaze start contradicting the story, I may edit the story to fit them or ignore them as I see fit in favor of the canon-mix of what I see as "the best bits of Trigun."

Summary
Simon doesn't make it back to the recon point before his 30-minute time limit. After Ava is attacked, communication is severed between the two pilots, and Simon assumes she is dead. With the only one willing to bring him back up gone, Simon resigns to his fate in the depths.
Simon manages to escape the monstrosity lurking in the deep, but the SM-13 was damaged in the process. As the convict fights for his last moments of life against the rising blood and monstrous flesh growing on the walls of the sub, the radio crackles to life.

Summary
The convict- Simon. His name was Simon, and some part of Ava hated that she knew it now because The Convict was a criminal, a murderer - a butcher, some said.
But Simon - Simon - was a person, who had parents and had a childhood, and had a voice that shook and quivered and broke as it yelled at her through a shitty microphone - "You sent me to die down here, and you don't even know my name?" - and Simon was clever, and Simon's amalgamated ship of spare metal had somehow moved off their plotted map, and yet he had found the coordinates for the lost SM-8 and had begged her to set him free for it's data.
Simon - the one responsible for the destruction of the Filament Station, the one who's life was in her hands - was an enigma of data versus emotion in her brain.
Simon wasn't talking.

None of her dissection of her and Danny's dynamic changed the fact that she was losing Danny, that somehow, something had changed, and since then she had been desperately reaching across a crack in her very world for a brother who didn't care if she let them both fall off the edge. She knew logically that that's how it was, how it was supposed to be. Danny was a teenager. She was nearly graduated, and ready to leave Amity Park and start a new life. It still didn't make her feel any less like the further away Danny drifted, the more she lost herself with him.
