Merlin is in the thick of his PhD thesis. The topic? Appropriation of Old English and Latin in Occult Practices. This makes him a perfect candidate for translating an old occult journal on behalf of Cedric Sigan, the world's most prolific Occult YouTuber (or so Sigan likes to say). Golden opportunities like this don't fall in academics' laps often, and Merlin leaps at the chance for a huge pay out.
However, when he attempts to read a section of the journal aloud, he accidentally summons a demon. Said demon refers to himself as a Knight of Hell, but tells Merlin to call him Arthur.
Now Arthur is refusing to leave until Merlin makes a contract for his soul. Merlin refuses, but quickly realizes he may be stuck with Arthur forever.
At least Arthur is nice to look at.

For as long as Merlin can remember, there has been another voice in his head. Not that kind of voice that makes him crazy - he's not - but as if there is another person sharing his body. It might seems odd, but Merlin is use to it, so it's fine. He likes his voice anyways. After all, what kid wouldn't like having a best friend living in their head?
