“Hypothetically,” she asked, “if a demon and a human ever got together and made half-demons, what would we do about it?”
Mira sat up and peered at Rumi. Rumi didn't like that look; it felt uncomfortably like she could see right through her, like she could just tell Rumi wasn't asking an idle question. She was about to walk the question back, to change the topic, something, when Mira's eyes widened. Oh no—this was it; Rumi was done for.
“Oh my God,” said Mira. She narrowed her eyes and pointed an accusing finger at Rumi “You're thinking about having cute babies with that Saja Boy!”
(Or: Rumi tries to delicately soft launch the subject of hybrid human-demons; it doesn't go as planned.)

3. No one knew who (what?) her father was.
4. She refused to visit the bathhouse, the pool, the beach, or any body of water with them.
5. Her favorite snack was shrimp crackers.Zoe chewed on her pen, eyebrows furrowed. She hadn't wanted to believe that she could have missed this, or that one of her closest friends could have lied to her for so long, but with everything written down and laid out like this, the evidence was irrefutable:
Rumi was a mermaid.

With Rumi being all weird since the golden release and the Saja Boys stealing their fans, you could say it was a stressful time. Over the years Mira learned the best thing she could do was reassure Zoey she was loved no matter what.

Mira put down her phone to continue watching the latest episode of The Orville when her phone pinged again.
"Good. Could you come to the bathroom then?"
"Please don't laugh."

RUMI: Yeah. Even if you brought your knives to bed, I would still sleep with you.
Zoey coughs and turns red at Rumi’s words. A moment later, Rumi seems to fully hear herself and how her words could be misinterpreted.
RUMI: Wait, not like that! Not like that!
