Summary
In a different universe, Portgas D. Ace keeps running.
And instead of receiving a magma fist to the chest courtesy of Akainu, he gets to watch a blinding beam of light eradicate Monkey D. Luffy's heart while he stands less than two feet away. A different series of world events kick into motion, one of which is the unveiling of a new, unique human weapon under the designation ICARUS, or IX-0.
IX-0 is under orders to patrol and vet the pirates trying to enter into the New World, and it's been going great. About a year and a half after its deployment, it encounters a small, captainless crew with dreams each more impossible than the one before. That should be the end of it, but IX-0 finds itself following them into the New World in search of something it can't explain.
There's just something about the Strawhat Pirates.

Summary
There's no eggplant in the paper. There is, however, Monkey D. Luffy, splashed on the front page. He looks like he's praying, in front of what Zeff assumes is his brother's grave, and there is something written and crossed and written again on his arm. The letters and numbers don't mean anything. Or maybe they do, and Zeff is just not who the message is for.
Once again, Luffy is alone. Or he's not, not really, because he came back to Marineford with Gold Roger's first mate and a former Warlord, somehow. But once again, his crew isn't with him. In Zeff's book, that means he's alone.
Zeff wonders where Sanji is. Whether Sanji is still alive.

At the question (or maybe just Nami, a reprieve from talking to Zoro—who he's still vaguely afraid of) Usopp perks up. “Kind of! I mean, yeah—the big Sun God in the Trench. But also the sea gods themselves, and the missing Moon God—it’s a whole thing,” he says, waving his hands as Nami crosses the deck, book tucked under her arm. Usopp trails off again but she gestures him onward and plops next to Zoro, dangling her feet over the open water, too.
“Go on,” she says.
He stares at them both before letting out a strangled kind of, “Do you actually want to know?”
Zoro and Nami exchange a look. “We have a keen interest in the local wildlife,” Zoro drawls, and Nami snorts out a laugh. The sound startles Usopp, who might be one of the most skittish people Zoro has ever met—second only to Koby, maybe.
Nami elbows Zoro in the side, trying (and failing) to hide her smile as he flips her the middle finger in return. “Local legends, then,” she amends.

Every summer, Naruto visits the sleepy beach town of Oceanview. Easily the best part of the trip is the carnival, set up for three days at the end of August. As summers pass, Naruto finds himself coming back again and again to see the boy at the end of the boardwalk.
