Summary
Sweets had long since learned that, out of everyone who worked at or with the Jeffersonian, Agent Booth was quite possibly the least dangerous person to be around. Sure, he had plenty of formal training, and he was prone to outbursts, but he tended to focus those towards inanimate objects and the case they were solving at the moment, never at colleagues or peers. And yet, there was a nagging feeling in the back of Sweets’ mind, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, that Brennan was the safer person for him to be close to.
or, Sweets finds himself cautious around Booth after he's the main suspect in a murder investigation. Booth mans up and apologizes for being a dick.

Summary
Sweets knew that something was bubbling up. He couldn’t pinpoint where it had started. Maybe it was the man dying on the subway or watching the gravedigger have her head blow up. Maybe it had something to do with being undermined at every angle even though his work had merit. He felt like he was watching himself begin to fade away.
Everything decreased. His enjoyment of life, the time he spent with his friends and the love that he felt for Daisy once so strong it could have killed him. So he slept and drank too much and began decreasing his workload.
Or Lance Sweets finds his mental health start to take a toll and then a case starts to affect him.

As he slept, Spider was making these small, choked noises, like screams trapped in his throat, tearing up his insides and spilling blood all over the ground. “Get off me! Fuck you!” Spider was screaming, his face going red with the strain, spittle flying from his mouth, a vein in his neck bulging with the strain. “I won’t do it! I won’t tell you!”
Lo’ak wrapped his hands around Spider’s upper arms and used all his might to shake him fiercely, the whole hammock jumping with the force of it. “Spider!” he shouted with a hiss right into Spider’s face. “Wake up already!”
With a gasp that sounded like it hurt him, Spider’s eyes snapped open, wild and unseeing. In one moment, he was held in Lo’ak’s worried grip, and in the next, Lo’ak was stumbling back into Neytiri with a hand held to his face as blood streamed from his nose.

“Come on, kid,” someone says, rubbing his sternum with bruising fingers. Dennis desperately tries to swat the hands away, the bone already sensitive from the weight of the patient from just moments ago. “Open your eyes, Whitaker, come on. Look at me. Open your eyes.”
He twitches, his limbs flexing in odd and tight angles as he tries to expel the memory of the pain. He tries to speak, not to answer the question but to ask for help, help, anyone, anyone at all, his mom or one his brothers or the youth pastor who gives him bandages when no one is looking, just, God, please, please—
The best Dennis can manage is a deep gurgle from his throat.

Summary
Signal after signal rings through and she's about to give up when he finally accepts the call.
There's a weird shuffling noise in her ear.
“Huckleberry, where the hell are you?” she says
For a few seconds there's only silence and her stomach twists unpleasantly. She presses her hand to her other ear to try to cancel out the noise around her.
“Trinity…I don't feel good…help…”
Her grip around the phone tightens and she looks at Dana and Robby and her heart picks up speed.
His voice is hoarse and weak and he seems out of it.
“Where are you? What's going on?” she asks.
“Really…tired…something's…wrong…”
He coughs into the phone for several long seconds.
“Trin’ty?...pl’se help…”
The words are slurry and he struggles to get the words out, his breaths rapid in her ear.
“Where are you? Talk to me! Huckleberry? Tell me where you are.” she says frantically.
There's nothing but silence in her ear.

Or it takes seven weeks until Dennis can't keep up his secret anymore.

The curtains open and suddenly Santos is standing there. Her eyes immediately land on his injured arm and she shakes her head.
“Not so bad my ass” as she says “This is not a “little” sprain, Huckleberry!”
“It's definitely not,” Robby agrees with a sigh. “We need to call ortho for this, not to mention sending you up for X-rays. It doesn't look good.”
Dennis falls and breaks his arm. He's reluctant to get help but he's going to get it anyway.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker has a secret. He is homeless and currently he’s living in a closed off section of the hospital and he’s absolutely terrified someone will find out.
He also has asthma which he hasn’t told anyone about either. So technically he has two secrets. Although his asthma isn't really a secret. He just hasn't had any issues in years so he hasn't found a reason to tell anyone about it. He also hasn’t found a reason to renew his prescription for his medicine because even if he needed it he wouldn’t really be able to afford it anyway.
Unfortunately having asthma and being homeless isn’t the greatest combination, especially not when you had flu season, brutal shifts in the ER and the merciless cold weather outside.
Or…
Dennis manages to keep his secret for exactly 6 weeks and 3 days but then everything starts to crumble and all his lies and secrets unravel, one by one.

But I think you can do that at least one more time for me.” Ilya whispered into Shane’s ear, eliciting a shudder along with another whine. He was about to grab the toy again when he heard a noise from outside the bedroom. Shane wasn’t facing him, but the stillness that came over his body made it apparent that he felt Ilya’s unease. “Shhh.” Ilya shushed once more, just to let Shane know he was still there.
The light sound of distant footsteps was barely audible through the closed door. Ilya hoped he was overreacting. That he was mistaken. Something told him he wasn’t.

The last bit of rope had just snapped when the BANG of the bedroom door opening stole his attention.- -
A night alone in Boston, Ilya has Shane exactly where he wants him. Tied up and laid out all for him.
A break in interrupts their plans and catches them at their most vulnerable - putting both Ilya and Shane in harms way.
In the aftermath, the two try and recover together and navigate the world finding out their secret through one of the worst nights of their lives.
