When his parents are both at work after dropping his younger sister Holly at school, he finds himself staying at home alone with his thoughts and regrets. While his older sister Nancy is working as a journalist in Boston and all of his friends are gone, his mind messes up with him and he starts having visions where El is alive and breathing. He becomes a prisoner of his own thoughts, remorses and this guilty feeling he’s been trying so hard to get rid off. When The Party comes back to Hawkins for the Halloween holidays, they notice something has changed in Mike’s behaviour. Scared for their friend, they encourage him to open up.
The story takes place a few months after the last scene of the season finale.

It’s a match made in academic purgatory. Between heated debates in the library and late-night research sessions that feel suspiciously like dates, the lines begin to blur.
