Thae is a cyborg - a Companion model that was pulled off the market almost a decade ago after major malfunctions - that is stationed on the Enderon Space Station orbiting a small planet currently undergoing terraforming. His partner and owner - Anthony - is a scientist there, working to hybridize rabbits for colonization purposes. Anthony begins acting strange and Thae soon learns what he'd been hiding in the classified section of the lab where he isn't allowed.
When Anthony's creation is unleashed, it takes a strange liking to Thae, and enlists his help in taking over the space station, converting the crew into alien creatures similar to itself. As the creature explores its environment and grows closer to Thae, he finds a strange connection with it. They were both created to be something, but the creature offers opportunity. The opportunity for him to be something more.
In the end Thae will have to choose between the life he's always enjoyed as a Companion to a man who doesn't appreciate him, or to transcend what he was made to be and help the creature.

(Oh, the perks of just being a dairy farmer are now over. But hey, at least the calf maybe can help him...?)
