Atticus Winters is an Agent of Firewall, one of those charged with ensuring that the flickering light of human civilization does not die out. Joining one of Firewall’s colonization programs, he passed through a trans-dimensional gate of unknown age and providence. Winding up in the past on a parallel Earth was not un-expected, as that had been a possibility they had planned for. Quickly discovering that the megacorps that dominate this version of Earth are rapidly driving humanity to extinction, fixing such a society would be the work of multiple lifetimes, but Atticus couldn’t call himself a Firewall Agent if he didn’t at least try.
A decade later he gets a call from Viktor Vektor, who had helped him establish himself in Night City. One of Vik’s patients, and friends, has a bullet in her head and an unknown biochip eating her brain. From how Vik describes her, and from what he hears from other fixers, she would make a good Firewall agent, and it is far past time for Atticus to set up his own Firewall cell.
V, still deeply traumatized from her time in Arasaka CI, absolutely does not want to bind herself to another corp, and is determined to get the Relic, and Johnny Silverhand, out of her on her own terms.

Summary
After granting Songbird her final wish inside Cynosure, Valerie does what no one expects.
She doesn’t call Reed, instead taking the neural matrix, and running.
With the Relic nearing critical overwrite and the NUSA tightening its net, Valerie returns to Charter Street and tells Judy everything. There’s only one option left: the Aldecaldos.
Panam believes her Arizona contacts can utilize the neural matrix without NUSA oversight. It won’t be clean. It won’t be safe. But it might work.
As Valerie’s condition deteriorates, Judy and Panam lead a high-speed exodus across state lines, pursued by: NUSA black ops teams, Militech recovery units, Mercs hired to retrieve the Matrix, and Netwatch sniffing for Blackwall residue.
Time is running out.
Valerie must be sedated with beta blockers and neural dampeners to slow the Relic’s final overwrite while the Aldecaldos race toward a Free State safe zone.
