When Mecha Man Astral died, his legacy died with him, his murder never solved, his son left behind, and his Astral Pulse never seen again.
Fifteen years later, Robert Robertson III, working under the name Mecha, is still chasing down leads on his missing birthright. Leads that always end up turning up nothing. After his latest failure to locate the Astral Pulse, Shroud gives Robert a new mission: infiltrate the SDN as a dispatcher. A laughably simple job.
Well it would be, if he could keep his eyes off of Flambae for five fucking minutes.
The closer they're drawn to one another, the harder Robert's inevitable betrayal will be. For both of them.

Robert has always been alone, since the day his papa killed his dad, making him lose both his parents all in one night. Since the day he had been forced to take the mantle of Mecha Man at the age of 15, to keep the family legacy going. Force to keep moving, never staying in one place to avoid being kidnapped by his papa who wants him and the Astral Pulse.
But now both the Mecha suit is destroyed and the Astral Pulse is missing. Luckily for Robert, SDN had promise to rebuild it to the best of their abilities in return of him dispatching for a superhero team. Unfortunately, the team he has been assigned to is the Z-Team, ex-villains trying to become heroes. They are also a bunch of assholes who not only make the job much harder than it should be but make it their job to drag him out of his goal of only being Mecha Man and teaching him to be Robert. Especially Sonar, who slowly finds himself wanting to have the brown eye, freckle face hero by his side forever and to teach him that he doesn't need to destroy himself to gain the approval of a dead man who never loved him.

Nearly four months have now passed since Shroud was killed and the Red Ring fractured. Without a unified leader, SDN has been able to eliminate most of the remaining cells and Z-Team was instrumental in it all. But without the Red Ring, a power vacuum has been created in Torrance that is desperate to be filled. Going into the holiday season, Robert and Courtney will need to solve some complications for the sake of the city.

But he has a... darker secret identity that he can't keep in check. They call him The Phoenix Slayer, a serial killer who targets those who would pray on the weak and innocent.
After a failed attempt to capture Shroud, he loses his Mech suit. After awakening from his four month long coma, he loses his Killing Room after the police find it. And someone stole his blood slide trophies!
When it seems that all hope is lost for him, Blonde Blazer appears and offers him a job at SDN as a Dispatcher for a group of reformed villains called the Z-Team. And his Uncle Chase is more than happy to help him too.
But can The Phoenix Slayer successfully lead the Phoenix Program? Will Robert be successfully able to keep his homicidal urges involving punishing criminals at bay? And, most important question of all, how long until the others find out they're working with Mecha Man, who may or may not also be The Phoenix Slayer?

Flambae rewrites another '90s pop song and probably needs a new car insurance policy. Malevola somehow turns green. Sonar's hopes of getting paid to goof off are quickly dashed. Coupe tries to fit in again after being let go and brought back. Phenomaman is... well, Phenomaman. And Invisigal might not actually be as over it as she thought she was.
Meanwhile the Red Ring, still licking their wounds after their defeat, would like to plot... something. If only they could just get their act together.
