Death had gone to personally collect the Potter Family's souls that fateful Samhain night. But to his surprise, someone survived and after a look into the future of the child, he opts to be a Troll to his sister Fate and raise the child. Taking the Potter child away to be raised in a relatively safe location, he also throws a few wrenches into a certain Headmaster's plans by making Harry Potter his Master from infancy on ward!

Summary
Sam knows exactly what happened the first time. He knows the difficulty of the journey, the slow poison of the ring, the losses that will come.
Most importantly, he knows that when all was said and done, Frodo left.
So when given a chance to do it all over, Sam didn't hesitate. Before Frodo could even think about opening his mouth at Elrond's council, Sam steps up and volunteers to take the ring.

“Rosie Cotton dancing,” Sam said, “and Pippin and Merry stealing the fireworks early. And you-” his voice died in his throat. He could feel Frodo’s eyes on him, but Sam kept his gaze steady on the far-off horizon. Somewhere, he hoped, the armies of Rohan and Gondor and all the kingdoms of men were gathered. He hoped that he and Frodo hadn’t been too late. Sam hoped a lot of useless things.
“Your laughter, Mister Frodo.” Sam’s voice was rough from smoke and the building tears in the back of his throat. He closed his eyes, and tried to remember the sound of Frodo’s laugh. The shape of his smile- how it formed dimples in his cheeks and made his eyes crinkle up into little crescents. It had been so long, the memories felt faint and dreamy, like something Sam had imagined long ago. Once, a lifetime past, Frodo’s smile was Sam’s favorite thing in the widest world. More beautiful than any flower he could grow in the garden, brighter than any of Gandalf’s fireworks cracking open in the sky. “I loved to hear you laugh, sir,” Sam whispered, and he felt a tear trace down his filthy cheek.

The weather in the Shire had been off for the past several days, with relentless howling winds, and torrential rainfall that had the youngest of hobbits clambering to nestle safely in bed beside their parents, and the older hobbits worrying at the windows over the wellbeing of their crops and livestock. It was two days into this unprecedented storm that Samwise kissed his beloved Rosie and Elanor goodbye and hurried over to check in on his dear Frodo.

Summary
The stars are restless.
They twinkle in the night sky, shoving back and forth, trying to catch a glimpse. For all soft songs written of them, for all the kisses shared under them and childlike wonder directed at them, the stars care not for gentleness, nor kind words or deeds. No, when the stars crane their necks, it is to see things like this: a Hobbit, curled up on a path, sobbing, alone. He is covered in blood. It is not his own. He has a traveling companion, a tall wizard who slumbers. Even were the wizard not truly sleeping, Hobbits are such quiet creatures that he never would have noticed the state of his companion.
The stars watch as salty tears shed upon the ground, as dried blood is rewet; and perhaps that is something in itself, something a planet or a galaxy might call an omen, but for right now only the stars see as Bilbo Baggins, Hobbit of the Shire, mourns.
