Chapter Text
Buck came home to an empty house. Tommy had texted that he'd be late because of a last minute hospital run, while the 118 had been offline for the last hour of their shift after a three alarm fire had them out most of the night. Buck managed to kick his shoes in the direction of the shoe rack, dropping his work bag by the door. He stripped down to his underwear in the bedroom, crawling into bed and falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Buck awoke to a soft purr filling the bedroom and a throbbing behind his eyes. He squinted, seeing a glass of water and a couple of his migraine pills on the bedside table. He pushed himself up just enough to be able to swallow the pills and drink some water before letting himself curl up again, the purring lulling him back to sleep.
He woke up later, disoriented, unsure of the time or what had woken him up. A rough tongue licked his nose and a soft paw prodded at his cheek.
“Hi,” Buck said, rolling onto his side. “Thanks for the meds.”
Tommy gave a soft meow and licked his cheek.
“How’d you know I had a headache when I didn’t?” Buck watched as he licked his paw. “Did you know your tongue is kind of rough?”
Tommy looked at him balefully. It was a hilarious expression to see on his little tabby cat face.
“Were you sitting on my head and purring?” Buck asked.
Tommy nodded.
“Do you mind doing that for a little bit longer and I’ll make us food when I get up?”
Tommy purred in response, moving up the bed so he could curl around Buck on the pillow. He draped his tail along Buck’s cheek, the gentle swishes of it tickling the underside of Buck’s chin. Buck reached up to scratch between Tommy’s ears, smiling as he fell asleep again.
“Morning,” Tommy's soft rumble woke Buck up as he placed a gentle kiss on Buck’s forehead. “Are you feeling any better?”
“Mm, yeah, thank you,” Buck stretched his arms out above his head and looked over at Tommy. “You never told me how you knew I had a headache.”
“Oh,” Tommy shrugged. “You do this little squint thing when you're getting a headache. I didn't want to wake you up in case it wasn't serious, but I thought bringing in something for you wouldn't hurt.”
“And then the purring on my head because of that story I told you about the healing frequency of cat purrs?”
“I figured it couldn't hurt.”
“Well, I very much appreciated it. Can I cuddle my human boyfriend now?”
Tommy obliged, moving closer and letting Buck wrap his arms around his waist. As soon as he was close enough, he licked Buck’s cheek.
“What are you doing?” Buck laughed and wiped off his cheek.
Tommy smiled smugly. “My tongue’s not rough anymore.”
Buck, of course, had to return the favour.
