Chapter Text
He’s staring at her like that again.
Bella quickly checks herself over again. Does she smell weird? She runs a hand over her hair to make sure it’s neat before pausing to puzzle out why he feels the need to stare at her like that.
One of his sisters glances between them, looking directly at Bella.
Oh god it’s Rosalie.
Why is she so pretty?
Rosalie looks confused, silently gesturing at Edward and looking at Bella, who shrugs before realizing that this might be the best way to address it. She pantomimes talking later to Rosalie, who gives her a thumbs up before turning back to her siblings.
"Hey, um," Bella started, freezing for a moment when Rosalie turned her lovely golden eyes on her, "I'm so sorry to bother you, like so, so sorry." She's babbling. Why is she babbling? Ohmygawd. "Edward is your brother, right?"
Rosalie looks at her for a moment, suddenly concerned.
"He is." She says. "What about him?"
"It's just, um," Bella starts again, "he's been acting really weird lately, and I don't know how to get him to stop, do you know how? Like, he’s been following me around, and he acts like I smell weird, and I swear I saw him in my room the other night."
Rosalie's face darkens for a moment before the picture perfect smile gets slapped across her face, the image of innocence.
"Oh don't worry Bella, I'll make him stop." She says, her smile now slightly alarming as she spots something behind Bella. "Don't turn around yet." She says as she seems to make eye contact with whoever is behind Bella while miming that she is going to pummel them.
She seems to stare down whoever it is a moment longer before turning back to Bella, smile now relaxed into something sly and wily, reminding Bella of a predator before she speaks again.
"Don't worry. He and I will have a little talk tonight, and then he won't bother you again." Rosalie promises, placing a cold hand on Bella's shoulder as she leaves, flashing her another of those rare smiles.
Bella thinks it's going to involve more than a little talking if the gleam in her eye is anything to go by.
When Bella gets to school the next day, neither Rosalie or Edward are anywhere to be seen.
It's two more days before Rosalie turns up again, flashing a thumbs up and another of those gorgeous smiles at Bella as she sits with her siblings.
Edward doesn't come back for two weeks, and when he does, he gives Bella a wide berth.
She never does find out what his problem was. She just goes to class, hangs out with Mike and Angela at lunch, and watches Rosalie kick Edward under the table when he tries to stare at Bella again.
