A collective sigh of relief rushes through the room. Pidge peeks around Keith, glancing at his back. She raises her eyebrows.
“Damn. If it wasn’t a Droot-whatever, then what the hell was it? You pick a fight with a werewolf?”
Keith sends a panicked look to Lance. “Help me,” he mouths.
Lance curls up tightly, still hiding his face. His ears are flaming. “I was the one to give Keith those scratches,” he admits meekly.
Shiro turns a scolding gaze towards him. “Are you two fighting still? I thought you were finally friends!”
If at all possible, both Keith and Lance get redder. Hunk is the first to clue in.
“Oh, my God,” he says gleefully.

Lance catches one of Keith’s hands, at his side, and his touch loosens the fists they’ve made. “Speak to me, Lionfish.” He commands, a rawness in his voice that tells Keith he’s scared, too, but he needs to know what is on the other side of this new development.
So, Keith lifts his other hand, shaking, to trace over the line of where Lance’s gills should be, finding nothing but smooth skin. He trails his fingers higher, to where Lance’s ears should point and his cheeks should be flecked with bleeds of color like his tail and he asks, voice thick, “What did you do?”

Summary
Lance is happy for the new coalition—of course he is, it saves his people and his kingdom from further heartache and pain against the Galra Empire and all of the embers of its death still remaining—and he’s proud of his father for what he’s accomplished in uniting the struggling planets and sectors against their common enemy, but he hasn’t been able to tame his still-simmering bitterness at his being barred from the negotiation table.
“I know I’m getting married, Hunk.” He lets slip. Hunk’s shuffling stops, and that’s enough of a tell.

Prince Lance has always known his role to the kingdom will involve lengthy political negotiations unless a genuine tragedy should put him first in line, but it's hard to stomach an impending arranged marriage in any scenario. Especially in the scenario where Lance actually ends up engaged to the Marmoran Prince he'd spent the night admiring, and neither are made aware of it quite in time.

Summary
Keith knew that night that he loved Lance. He mouthed the words once before releasing them into the space between the two.
“I love you,” Keith murmured, so softly it could scarcely be heard even by himself.
He scrambled for words he thought could describe Lance. Pretty and smart and fast came to mind first, of course, but after a few minutes of searching for a word that could encompass all of Lance’s greatness, he remembered a word Adam liked to use when a movie was over or an album played through.
“Masterpiece,” Keith uttered softly, eyes dancing across Lance’s face with a lovestruck grin.

Then they’re pulling their gloves off, revealing pale, half-bruised knuckles of the human variation, and their mask is dissolving, giving way to big blue-purple eyes and an achingly familiar jet-black cowlick. “Who,” says Keith Kogane, in that low-pitched rumble that makes Lance’s stomach roil in the good way—holy fuck—“is this guy you’re trying to get over?”
