About an hour later Keith was laying face down in their Wyoming King mattress.
“Baby, I know it’s a lot to take in but it’s only natural,“ Lance began, soothingly rubbing his back as he continued to ramble. Keith fought down a purr rising up in throat as he tuned out whatever Lance was mumbling about.
But he was right. This was a lot of process.
Apparently it was a recessive gene that only 30% of the Galran population had. It was even rarer in Galran hybrids, with only 5% of all known beings with mixed Galran heritage carrying the trait.
A rut, that is.

Lance would like to consider himself a scientist of sorts, but maybe that wasn't too accurate. After all, he was currently conducting some research those nerds couldn’t even begin to understand.
See, the study is so niche that there is only one licensed specialist in the matter, Dr. Leandro “Lance” McClain, cat shifter extraordinaire, PhD in Keithology.
Or, Lance pisses Keith off on purpose simply because he's a rascal.

Summary
About a year ago, Keith’s latent Galran DNA triggered a sort of second puberty. It was a common instance among various Galran hybrids as their DNA is typically dominant. However, due to the major changes a Galran puberty brings, most hybrid children experience a second puberty once their body is strong enough to survive the effects. All in all, he was still Keith, if only much bigger. Admittedly, he had initially been somewhat put off by it, but with a lot of support from his family he grew to embrace himself. Physically, he had adapted and even learned to like his new body.
It was the… urges that concerned him.
