Jack leans forward on the small table and Mohan leans back, but her mouth is quivering. “Did we pass your test, Doctor Mohan?”
The smirk breaks through, a dimple emerging on her cheek and - oh, that’s disorienting. Jack collects himself while she glances at her phone. “Under ten minutes. Not bad.”
“Usually my clients aren’t actively avoiding me, so you’ll have to forgive me the oversight this time.” He takes her soda and sips idly from the same straw.
Her lips grow into something wider, wilder. “Guess you’ll have to do better next time, Mr. Abbot.”

A full smile blooms on Abbot’s face. “Dr Mohan, you have your own go-bag?!” He looks absolutely delighted as she rolls her eyes and reaches down to her backpack, fighting her own smile.
“You don’t get the goods if you make fun of me, Dr Abbot.”
His right hand moves from his leg to rest over his heart. His eyes dance at her as his features slip into a farcical mask of shock.
“Hey hey, woah woah, this is awe I’m giving you, baby!”

“So, what’s your plan?” Garcia took another pull on her beer.
“My plan?” Trinity was pretty sure eating a burger didn’t require a plan.
“The flooded apartment. You do have a plan, don’t you?” Garcia asked.
“Uh, yeah. Of course.” Trinity started peeling the label off of her beer bottle. “Of course, I have a plan.” She shrugged. Garcia didn’t need to know that the plan didn’t extend past going back to her car and then, well, she didn’t know.
Garcia looked at her for a long moment before she blinked and took a sip of her beer. “You’re lying.”
“What?” Trinity recoiled. How could Garcia possibly know that?
“I’m going to buy you dinner. We’re going to walk back to the hospital. I’m going to leave you at your car, and then what? What’s the plan after that? Where are you sleeping tonight?”
A pipe bursts in Trinity's apartment. Does she tell anyone? Of course not. Garcia rescues her, but Trinity's trauma makes that difficult.

So Samira climbed the stairs all the way to the top, pushing the door until it gave way to dark skies and warm August air, present even at the late–or perhaps early–hour. Her eyes found Abbot, standing past the guardrail a few yards away, on the ledge.

He’s visited the Hopkins staff directory a dozen times in the past week and memorized the headshot displayed beside Samira Mohan, MD, FACEP, Associate Program Director, Emergency Medicine Residency | Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. Something about her is sharper in person. Something that can’t be captured by a camera. He has to move his cigarette to his mouth to shake her hand.
Robby is leaving on sabbatical. Dr. Mohan is brought in as interim chief in the meantime. Jack should hate her.

It wasn't surprising when Lena stopped him as he passed the charge desk. "Mohan's got a dicey one in North six. Thirty year-old female with broken ribs and a fractured orbital. Claims she fell, but her boyfriend won't leave the room. You might check on her."
Jack felt his heartrate pick up at the thought of Samira in a small room with a domestic abuser. "Yeah. Thanks for the heads up," he shot back, before turning and heading in that direction.
He told himself to calm down. Samira could handle herself. Hypervigilance was a symptom, his therapist's voice told him, not a reflection of reality. He walked at a brisk pace anyway.
