If Dokyeom reached out to hold him, he would scramble away theatrically and that would be it, the end of the game. So he held still, focused on his food, and waited.

Jihoon tossed the bag to his bed, letting it land amongst the careful arrangement of blankets and various pilfered hoodies and sweaters. It was a question he got asked a lot. He understood it. It always felt like they were fighting with some unseeable clock, the manifestation of work that encroached on every moment he had with his packmates. But today he had set that aside. Today he had decided that he would participate in caring for the pups like all the others did.

It was Mingyu’s first rut. He knew it was natural and normal and definitely not something that warranted how worried he was, but he couldn’t help it. The three pack heads had discussed it at length, how they would handle cycles once the pups started presenting. And they’d mostly decided to go with whatever the pups wanted, whoever they felt like they needed would help them. This was the first time he actually felt like he was responsible for it, like whether or not it went well depended on him.

Standing on the porch, watching the cruiser’s headlights disappear down the drive, Jihoon is hit, suddenly, by how isolated he is out here. He can just about spot the chimney spout of the next house over the Cherry tree grove, but that’s the only other living soul for miles, and God knows what the nearby town holds.
One grocery store, if he’s lucky. A post office, maybe. A police station because where else will Officer Split Personality Choi Seungcheol spend his days confusing people. There might be a coffee shop too, but Jihoon doubts he’ll be getting his Americano there. It’ll just be that freeze-dried shit in a Styrofoam cup, and some serious stink-eye if you think you’re getting anything different.
God, what was he thinking coming out here?

But what if we could form deeper bonds, push past all the secrets and reservations and just be free. To know each other's thoughts openly and honestly. As they say, to think freely is to live fully.
Or in the case for equally suppressed Jihoon and Seungcheol, it just leads to better sex.
