He could be a haze of scarred olive skin, shiny black hair that now grew down his shoulders and deep not-exactly-black eyes, surrounded by the white sheets of his large Cabinet Thirteen counselor bed. His smile could be warmer than the sun and the way the word 'love' slipped from his tongue could be melodic.
He stopped kissing Will goodbye every night in front of his porch: instead, he let Will use the Hades cabin like the space was their own. They were seventeen now and half of Will's wardrobe was on Nico's floor, and it's been months since Nico slept in any clothing that wasn't once Will's.

He can think of only one thing to say, one thing that would take away all this hurt, that would send Will away, one thing that Will has been inevitably yearning to do. Just like everybody else.
Quietly, he says, “Then leave.”
Will makes a wounded sound and releases Nico’s collar as if he’s suddenly revolted by the idea of touching him. Tears finally drip down from Will’s eyes in rivulets, like clear rivers breaking apart from hard ice. He shoves Nico so hard he hits the bedpost, falling onto the mattress.
“Fuck you,” Will says, trembling. Then he leaves.
Or, after a bad fight with Will, Nico heads to the Underworld to find comfort. It's a good thing he has an amazing family.
