I remember it too, now, that night — the wind tugging on my hair and coat, the wild reckless thud of my heart against my ribs, the dizzy abyss of the harbor stretching out so far below me in the night that it almost didn’t feel real. Malcolm’s voice in the darkness — “Tobias, step back”, a brusque eulogy for both people I thought I’d left behind long ago, and how much I’d rather fall than turn around and face either of them. And then the plunge.
Graves has a nightmare, T.F. helps; agreements are reached about swimming lessons.

Now, as anyone could tell you I ain’t a complicated man. I enjoy a well-made shotgun and a good fight, being paid up front, mediocre liquor and the look T.F. gets in his eyes when he’s come up with somethin’ clever and illegal we’re about to try our hands at.
But this is better’n all of it. It’s like the thrill when we pull off a big job, ‘cept no one’s even shootin’ at us and his eyes are only on me. He’s still grinning, and distantly I realize that so am I.
The boys manage to get a job wrapped up a few days early and use the unexpected downtime to engage in some… celebrating! Set a decent amount of time after ‘Destiny and Fate’ and ‘Double-Double Cross’.
