Summary
Some things get worse before they get better. Some things just get worse.
Will Byers falls between the cracks of a universe. Jim Hopper and the Maldonado family house a girl who knows more about alternate dimensions than she understands how to speak. Nancy Wheeler is going to find her best friend, no matter what it takes. Mike Wheeler is worried about his sister. Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, and (begrudgingly) Max Mayfield are worried about Mike.
These things will all come together, in time.

“Meow,” and there’s no way she heard that right, eyes snapping away from where she’d been distractedly watching the TV screen and over to her brother’s friend. She checks again, and yeah, Will is holding a stuffed bear, not a cat. The beloved Tiggy stays firmly attached to his bag, so they aren’t playing with tigers, either.
“So they go back down the mountain, and now all the village people are asking them about the crystal, and Rory is sad thinking they didn’t get it that whole time, but then–”
“Meow. Meow,” Will declares, removing the teddy from the dinosaur’s back and making it do some sort of interpretive dance.

Summary
“Friends don’t lie?” It’s a callback, an ancient one, a pinky-promise made between two children at the dead of night, one passed on to their other friends, one that hasn’t been followed for a long time.
“Yeah. Yeah, friends don’t lie. I promise I won’t,” Mike vows, holding onto Will impossibly tighter, like he can speak it into being.
“Okay,” Will whispers, sounding suspiciously choked up. Sad with a resigned longing that Mike doesn’t know how to soothe. “I promise, too.”

After the Byers' move into the Wheeler house and Will starts sleeping in the basement, Mike can't stop himself from hovering at the top of the stairs every time he has a nightmare. With a few bumps along the way, this somehow culminates in a whole lot of cuddling and a hell of a lot more personal introspection.

Summary
When he inevitably dies of a heart attack, Todd hopes Neil at least has the good sense to call someone instead of trying to heroically carry him bridal style to the nurse himself. If he weren't already on the brink of death, that would certainly push him over it– either from Neil dropping him or due to sheer flustration at being touched in such a way.
or, neil has something to tell todd. todd can't catch a break.

Summary
Will was weeping openly. “And the worst of it,” he whispered, his voice breaking as he forced up a fourth and final finger. He looked at it as if it were a silver-tipped weapon pointed at his own heart. “The very worst of it… is that I would be the author of it. I would be the hand that stops your heart. The mouth that poisons you. Every moment of suffering you ever felt thereafter — every pang of monstrous hunger, every flinch from a memory of sunlight, every tear you shed for the life you lost — would be born of my creation. I would have to look at you, forever, and see my greatest crime wearing your face, speaking with your voice. I cannot… I cannot bear that, Michael.”
He sank to his knees then, defeated. He knelt on the cold floorboards, naked and shivering, his face in his hands. “So don’t ask me,” he begged, his words muffled and wet. “However much you love me, however little you fear the dark… have mercy on me. Don’t ask me to damn you.”
OR: Mike moves into an old house in the early 1800s, and ends up accidentally living with Vampire Will. They fall in love.

Summary
A sick, ugly, twisted part of Mike wonders if his nose has to start bleeding before someone notices he doesn't wanna be around anymore.
It’s stupid. It’s so incredibly stupid it hurts, and Mike knows it. He’s sixteen years old. He can handle the thoughts and the darkness and how bad it gets each and every winter, like clockwork. He doesn’t even need help, not like he thought he used to. He learned what real hurt was the fall Will went missing.
He just…feels like it never quite stopped hurting.

Mike is depressed. He doesn't quite think he deserves to be, most of the time. Will disagrees.
