Summary
He may struggle with his memory for a few days, weeks, months, years, or might never get those memories back. From what we understand, he suffered from a traumatic brain injury known as a concussion and could also be psychological due to the trauma he experienced or dissociating from what happened. Only time and therapy can help in helping him heal. It'll be a lengthy, rocky process, for both Neil and those around him as he deals with the memory loss, injuries, and resulting trauma.
Neil has amnesia after surviving Baltimore, and Andrew and Neil are trying to be okay in the aftermath.

The first time that Andrew saw Neil Josten, he knew that he had fallen head over heels. He wasn’t beautiful in the way that you would expect one to be. But he was beautiful. The way that the sun seemed to highlight the auburn of his hair, and the crystal blue of his eyes…
Andrew could list a dozen ways to describe Neil, from the easy laugh that lit up his features to the quiet way in which he carried himself. But no words came close. Deep down, though, Andrew knew this crush was one-sided and someone that he couldn’t have. They weren’t in the same social groups. Andrew stuck to his group, while Neil hung with the athletes.
Or the Monsters are in high school, and Andrew is hopelessly in love with Neil.

He loved moments like this, ones where they could be themselves with one another, even if Andrew was sick. He settled down beside Andrew on the couch, holding his own bowl of soup. He turned on the TV and opened Netflix to find the last show they had been watching together.
