Alhaitham, who had gone very quiet, snapped his book shut.
"I need to make a call."
Kaveh blinked at him. "A call? To who?"
"Work."
Tighnari frowned. "You've never mentioned what you actually do for work."
Alhaitham was already halfway to the door. "Because none of you would understand it."
Kaveh is a cosplayer; in other words, a modern-day Prince Charming in a world where chivalry is dead, as quoted from Cyno.
All artists know that art, in any form, comes from a fundamental basis of inspiration. He's a very big fan of the anonymous comic book author known by the pseudonym “Sage". He doesn't make much of an effort to hide this fact.
The only issue is this: he also has no idea that "Sage" lives in the same apartment, one door down.

His gaze effuses tranquility like a serene pond reflecting the moonlight.
After five years of retirement, famous but depressed violinist Neuvillette meets a mysterious street pianist—Wriothesley who awakens his passion again and not only for music...

The way Neuvillette had carried himself suggested otherwise. Like something had wrenched hold of him, something he was afraid to let go for fear of what it might bring. It dawned on Wriothesley then, as he watched Neuvillette idly fiddle with the ruffles of his sleeves, that in his hundreds of years of living, he had probably never expressed interest in anyone before.
And that was a truly terrifying thought, indeed.
Plagued by nightmares and increasing grief, only fond memories of Wriothesley seem to offer Neuvillette any comfort. But when Neuvillette quietly tiptoes into the Duke’s office late one evening and confesses, both find themselves faced with a choice: continued isolation or love's uncharted path.
For those exhausted by life’s burdens, perhaps it’s only a love that can be found in each other's embrace that can offer true respite.

Kaveh snorted. “Good luck with that.”
Alhaitham hummed.
And then—calm, calculated, infuriating—he lifted his pen, tilted his head, and wrote beneath Kaveh’s challenge:
“You’ll do.”
Or, how Alhaitham accidentally weaponized his thesis as a flirting technique and Kaveh is absolutely not having a good time.

He gestures vaguely with his eyes—because his hands are trapped under the blanket and his pride is trapped under Neuvillette’s patience.
Neuvillette hums, almost dryly. “At fussing over you?”
“At staying,” Wriothesley says, more quiet now.
Neuvillette does not respond right away.
Instead, he dips the spoon back into the broth, scoops a careful portion, and brings it up again—steady, slow, like ritual. He waits for Wriothesley to part his lips. Waits until the soup is gone before saying softly,
“You are surprisingly easy to stay for.”
Or, Wriothesley gets sick, and Neuvillette gets soft.

It becomes a pattern, if one can call complete emotional derailment a pattern. Wriothesley doesn’t mean to do it. He isn’t trying to be dramatic. He isn’t twelve anymore, and this isn’t schoolyard infatuation. It’s just—Neuvillette exists. He stands there in those finely tailored robes like elegance itself descended into the underbelly of Fontaine to deliver sentences with the weight of rivers behind them. He speaks with kindness so restrained it’s reverent. He looks at Wriothesley like he might actually be worth listening to.
It’s unfair, really.
The second teacup breaks during a question. Neuvillette had asked—genuinely asked, in that quiet thunder of a voice—what Wriothesley thought justice meant to someone who never had a choice in the first place.
Wriothesley, halfway into a sip, had choked, set the cup down too fast, and cracked the handle off against the saucer.
Or, Wriothesley learns how to hold something that doesn’t shatter.

“They think we’re in love,” Kaveh concludes, triumphant and slightly breathless. “And you know what that means?”
Alhaitham stares. “That Sumeru needs better education policy.”
“That means,” Kaveh says, undeterred, “we can get ahead of it. Control the narrative. Pretend to be a couple. Just for a little while. Just to throw them off.”
Or, Alhaitham and Kaveh decide to fake a relationship, and the feelings never stop being real.
