And fuck, if that isn't a pointed attack. Still, Wriothesley manages to gather himself. He tugs at Neuvillette's wayward hand, pulling it to his mouth. A gentle kiss to Neuvillette's knuckles leads them to both sigh.

"As soon as we're sober," repeats Wriothesley, "we can do everything dirty thing you've dreamed of."

A work function with wine leads to confessions, and Wriothesley doing his best to be a gentleman.

"Okay, but objectively," Kaveh started, pacing back and forth across the living room rug, "do you guys think he's hot?"

"We've never seen his face, Kaveh."

"Stop looking at me like that. I just want to know if he's handsome. Is that a crime?"

Alhaitham, who had gone very quiet, snapped his book shut.

"I need to make a call."

Kaveh blinked at him. "A call? To who?"

    "Work."

Tighnari frowned. "You've never mentioned what you actually do for work."

Alhaitham was already halfway to the door. "Because none of you would understand it."

Kaveh is a cosplayer; in other words, a modern-day Prince Charming in a world where chivalry is dead, as quoted from Cyno.

All artists know that art, in any form, comes from a fundamental basis of inspiration. He's a very big fan of the anonymous comic book author known by the pseudonym “Sage". He doesn't make much of an effort to hide this fact.

The only issue is this: he also has no idea that "Sage" lives in the same apartment, one door down.

The wind rips a poster from the plastered wall. The paper flutters in the air like a leaf before landing in a puddle. And Neuvillette steps right into it, feels the water seep into his shoes, soaking his feet. But he doesn’t care. Tries hard to not look at the endless rows of himself covering the brick wall. Yet, it’s inevitable for him to catch a glimpse.

The posters all depict an elegant man in a fluid, flawless pose. There Neuvillette emerges like liquid light against a dark blue backdrop. A three-piece suit hugs his impeccable form. Inclining his head, he cradles a violin with a delicate hand, his bow paused in a caress over gleaming strings. Long silver hair tied behind him, flowing over his shoulder in a breathtaking swoop. His gaze effuses tranquility like a serene pond reflecting the moonlight.

After five years of retirement, famous but depressed violinist Neuvillette meets a mysterious street pianist—Wriothesley who awakens his passion again and not only for music...

    Summary

The Chief Justice, with his guardedness and meticulous planning, wouldn't have dared confess without dissecting every emotion, every potential consequence beforehand.

    And yet.

The way Neuvillette had carried himself suggested otherwise. Like something had wrenched hold of him, something he was afraid to let go for fear of what it might bring. It dawned on Wriothesley then, as he watched Neuvillette idly fiddle with the ruffles of his sleeves, that in his hundreds of years of living, he had probably never expressed interest in anyone before.

And that was a truly terrifying thought, indeed.

Plagued by nightmares and increasing grief, only fond memories of Wriothesley seem to offer Neuvillette any comfort. But when Neuvillette quietly tiptoes into the Duke’s office late one evening and confesses, both find themselves faced with a choice: continued isolation or love's uncharted path.

For those exhausted by life’s burdens, perhaps it’s only a love that can be found in each other's embrace that can offer true respite.

SEQUEL TO 'did my love aid and abet you'
    -
He should’ve valued Wriothesley enough to never use him like this in the first place. But he was, as always, simply too weak.
    -
Or, the fic where Neuvillette asks for a low-commitment, friends with benefits, completely secret arrangement and gets a bit too emotional when he receives just that.
