Summary
This was not the plan. The plan was for you to transfer your mind to a power suit and take the Climber down to site Tau, where you would find the ARK and launch it into space the way the original PATHOS-II team was supposed to. The plan was to get you and Catherine on the ARK and go with the rest of humanity into a virtual reality that would keep you alive and safe on a satellite and far, far away from the the wreckage of you apocalyptic planet. The plan was for you to get on the ARK and leave.
Nowhere in the plan were you supposed to wake up alone at the bottom of the fucking ocean.

Summary
Collecting my various Half Life nonsense under one heading and somewhat loosely in order! Everything in this series will follow the Physics of the Crowbar characterization but can be read as stand-alone stories. More or less follows game cannon, fills in some gaps, attempts to add a little character to things, expands timelines. No romance but lots of friendship in HL2 setting, and as much "make Freeman as viscerally uncomfortable as possible" in HL1 setting.

What happens when Freeman refuses the G-Man's offer? Is there such a thing as an "unwinnable battle" to Freeman, after Black Mesa? And what happened during those twenty years? Freeman didn't age, but that doesn't mean he didn't move forward. He didn't accept the job offer, not at first, but the G-Man isn't much for fair choices. Shades of Edge of Tomorrow.

Summary
A parasite sprang from the rubble and he smashed it down viciously. The crowbar pinned it to the floor, its innards leaking even as it scrabbled for escape. The thing whined and screeched and died, fighting every second. Maybe a biologist could have told him why the thing was hostile, or what mechanism drove it to seek a human host, but he was not a biologist. He was a physicist, and he'd decided to live.

Less than a week after Alyx is taken by the G-man and still no plan for how to find her, Gordon is finally convinced to take the suit off for it to be repaired and for him to take a shower.
"In Barney’s words, “Gordon, taking off the damn suit won’t kill you and keeping it on won’t find Alyx. Besides, you reek, when was the last time you showered?”
So, Gordon Freeman was here, staring himself down in the bathroom mirror, mentally preparing himself to take the suit off."
Gordon isn't able to wash himself clean without help. He doesn't get it.

Denial only got you so far.
You could kick and fuss and scream about them all you liked but at the end of the day, you had to submit to the truth...so what was the truth here?
The truth was a lot of things to different people. To some it was the knowledge that you went to work for the sake of your family, to keep a roof over their heads. For others it was some big reveal-a payout to a mystery they’d been following all their lives. For Zenigata, it was that his biggest rival was also one of the only people in this world he’d fallen completely, deeply in love with.

It doesn't really MATTER what Lupin the Third was after in Cagliostro; It's not the first time Inspector Zenigata has gone through hell and back to chase his quarry. But it might be the first time he's been this close to him, as they sit together in the dark tunnels of Cagliostro. And it's certainly the first time he's seen Lupin this... roughed up.
Or so cold.
What can a man do, but try to keep his rival a little warmer...? Even if it means he might get a little closer to his foe then he meant to allow himself to. There's a first time for everything, after all...
