Early in the war, Hot Rod joins the Decepticons, angry that the Autobots provided precious little assistance to evacuate the citizens of Nyon when Hot Rod burned his own city to ashes to prevent Zeta from using the citizens as fuel for the Functionist war machine.
Confounded by the strict formality within the ranks of the Decepticon army, Hot Rod is fiercely determined to preserve as much Nyonian culture as he can. When an Autobot saves his life during an intense battle, Hot Rod vows to uphold the Nyonian life-bond tradition to save his life in return.
