Why?” He’s already spinning out exit strategies and flipping through the portfolio of gangs and criminals he’d read on the way over. The Xianzhou doesn’t have much in the way of organized crime but–

Aventurine looks up from his artful sprawl and says, “Good morning, Topaz! How's my favorite Cornerstone today?”She bites back on her instinctive response that his favorite Cornerstone is undoubtedly himself, and she forces a polite little nod instead. “Morning. Nice work on the Green Isle job,” she says and it tastes bitter on her tongue. “Any trouble?”
“Not a bit,” he says, grinning at her. “Went just according to plan. Isn’t it nice when nothing goes wrong?”
“Yeah,” she says, trying very hard to be blank. “Good for you. Good luck on the next one.”
“Thanks,” he says as Numby jumps on his lap. “I always appreciate luck; it’s what carries me through!”

The mark is talking to him, but he ignores them entirely; tonight took a lot of planning but if this is what he thinks it is, then none of that matters a good goddamn anymore. This is it, this is his chance, this is everything he ever hoped for, if only he's lucky enough to win it.

Summary
The Sailor Moon fusion you didn't know you needed. Ace's life is basically a whole bunch of misfortune that's wildly amusing to everyone but him, and pirates do dumb things in very short skirts. There's magic, lies, drunk magical moon cats, fire murder that's not attempted by Ace, and, like, I mean, teeeeechnically there's spoilers for season 2 of Sailor Moon, but if you don't know who the Moon Princess is by this point, I can't help you.

This. This is Tim. A lot of flavor from old school yj where intergalactic battle baseball was a thing and Secret was a secret, but with all the shiny new trauma of more recent events. Tim plans his own rescue, sure, but it's his friends who carry it out and his family that tries to bring him home. This is the Tim they meant when they said, "Hey look, it's some kid in red and green tights! Let's surrender!"
