One, vampires drank blood. Two, vampires were very physically attractive.
And three, vampires were notoriously ruthless.

Richie doesn't have any mention of a boyfriend, past or present, on his Wikipedia article and he’s never talked about it to any of them, probably. Maybe Stan, because he’s the only one who can keep secrets. If he talked to Mike about it, everyone would know, and if he talked about it to Ben he wouldn’t tell anyone except Mike and Mike would tell everyone anyway. Maybe Bev. (Is it homophobic if Eddie thinks Richie might tell Bev about being gay? Eddie googles but the results are inconclusive.)
None of them seem particularly well-versed in the subject, so he probably hasn’t talked to any of them. It occurs to him that maybe, if he was still in New York, he would assume that the people closer to Richie should handle it.
Is this Eddie’s job? As the person living in his backyard, it probably is. Eddie’s heart starts to thump worryingly in his chest. It can’t be his job.
But he’s been staying in Richie’s pool house. He’s been swimming in his pool. The most he contributes to Richie’s life is the occasional 48-pack of Fruit Roll-Ups. He hasn’t even chipped in for utilities.
Oh shit. It’s totally his job.

"Oh, for—" Buddy exhales sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Are you drunk?"
Chase gasps in feigned outrage. "Whaaaat? Nooo. What? Drunk? What the hell is even that?"
Buddy stares at him flatly, certain of one thing. He’s drunk. Not just tipsy—gone. Completely, stupidly, adorably gone.

It wasn't like how you said it'd be, Eddie had told him backstage, a force in his gaze that could've knocked Richie over. That was cool. I think you might just be a pussy.
Of course the same performance adrenaline that gave Richie vicious nausea spells would just make Eddie insane, and thus funnier. The audience loved him; Richie could relate.

The guilt said no. Chase wasn't like that! Wasn’t selfish like Buddy. But jealousy, a stone skipping on water, a boulder crashing into a river, fought back. Its jaws opened wide over the guilt, snapping shut and trapping it there in its throat.
