Summary
Will burst into one of the most blinding, dazzling smiles Mike had ever seen. It wouldn't matter if they were on the darkest, cloudiest night in the middle of the ocean; Will was a beacon of light. Mike couldn't tell if there were actual stars in his eyes or if it was just a reflection, but it didn't matter. Will was too stunningly beautiful, and that look was too intense, and he had to look away as his stomach turned and his brain tried to come up with a generic response to whatever Dustin was saying on the radio. The past few weeks he had been desperately trying to convince himself that it was just his old crush rearing it's head. He had moved on from Will, really. They could be friends again without all the relationship drama that came between them in highschool. But sitting on the top of a hill on a cold November night he realized nothing had changed at all.
Fuck, he was still madly in love with Will Byers.

Summary
Silence. Hungry, carnivorous—or maybe cavernous, vast and lined with teeth, ready to bite. The quiet before the storm, the gasped breath in before the heart stops. Tragedy tastes bitter. Blood tastes like pennies. Both are in the air, promises coating the tongue. Something bad is about to happen.
From beneath the bed, something reaches out—a mass of darkness, a shapeless nothing—and it grabs Mike by the wrist, yanks him forward. Mike chokes on a yelp and flails his arm free, blood dripping from where the shadows grabbed him, like the touch of darkness has split him open. He tries to scramble away, unfolds his legs to kick himself back but only makes himself easier, more vulnerable. The unidentifiable mass encircles Mike's ankle, and he screams something agonized, terrified—and then it pulls Mike, clawing at the carpet with his bloodied fingers, under the bed.
This time, the silence isn't hungry. It's satisfied.
will starts entering the mindscape in his dreams on the same night that mike gets taken by vecna. this is probably the least confusing part of everything that happens after.

At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.

Summary
He exhaled the smoke, now thinning, casting white shadows to drift across Mike’s sharp features. The air cleared but neither boy made a move to pull away. Rather, they moved infinitesimally closer, catching lips and bumping noses again.
Will’s heavy eyes fought to stay open. The force of Mike’s aura had him longing to shut his eyes and close the distance, to feel the warmth of his mouth and taste the remnants of earthy weed on the tip of his tongue.
Swaying forward, he breathed out a needy, “Mike, I want–”
“Yeah?”
OR: Mike visits Will at college. He didn't plan to cheat on Carlton, but he also didn't plan on getting high with Mike. Shit happens, right?

Their entire sides were touching, and the strange contact was enough to sufficiently distract him. Especially when Mike laid a hand on his thigh, what the fuck.

If Mike were to be questioned about what happened earlier, he would say that he didn’t mean for it to happen at all.
And, like, yeah, he’s not lying or anything. He really wasn’t planning on kissing his best friend straight on the mouth in a valiant attempt to shut him up, but saying that he didn’t mean for it to happen implies that it was a mistake, accidental, unthinking, even; and that’s–well–that’s not strictly true, either.

Mike shook his head, holding Will closer to his chest.
“Mike, please.” Will pleaded, closing his eyes against the light, or perhaps it was too much effort to keep them open. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t,” Mike whispered, surprised at how vulnerable he sounded, at the shake and utter defeat in his voice. “You won’t kill me, Will. Because we’re the same. We can’t hurt each other, even at the end of the world.”

It's been three years since the start of the zombie apocalypse and Mike is finally returning home. He discovers that not only is he not the sole survivor of Hawkins, but that his friends and sister are alive, too.
