Summary
Mike smirked, stepping closer. Then, as if on a whim, he reached for Will’s hand.
The touch was electric. Will’s chest tightened, but he held the gesture, allowing their fingers to intertwine. Mike’s small laugh was soft, like the tinkling sound of a bell echoing in the quiet courtyard.
“Come on,” he whispered, tugging Will toward the center of the garden.
“Come on… where?” Will asked, though he already knew the answer.
“To dance,” Mike said, spinning lightly on his toes, bare feet skimming the cool stone. “Just… for a little while.”
Will stepped towards him, not wanting to disturb the soft moment. He wanted to reach out and touch, but he didn’t know where to. Mike looked perfect like this, bathed in moonlight, wearing the softest looking shirt.
Or the AU where Will is assigned to kill the prince of Montauk, but instead he falls in love with him.

Then his foot caught. He stumbled, hit the ground hard.
“No,” he thought.
He scrambled upright and looked up.
The spike, no, the leg, was coming. Gigantic, massive, impossibly fast. He barely had time to register the movement before it was on him.
He tried to jump. Tried to dodge. Tried anything.
It hit.
Pain attacked instantly. Heat. Pressure. Blood. Too much blood. Warm and sticky and everywhere. And then he realized: he wasn’t just hit, the spike had gone through him. The Mindflayer’s leg had driven him into the air, and now he was impaled, suspended.

Castle Byers rises ahead of him.
What’s left of it, anyway.
Broken boards jut from the ground at crooked angles, the remains of towers collapsed inward on themselves. Sheets hang in tatters, damp and heavy with rot. It’s smaller than it used to be. Sadder.
Will approaches it without slowing.
He lowers himself down, stiffly, knees hitting dirt and leaves. Then he crawls forward, hands pressing into the earth, shoulders squeezing beneath splintered wood. Inside, he lies flat on his back, arms at his sides, staring up at nothing.
He does not move.
The forest goes very still.
Or: Will Byers gets possessed. No help arrives. He must try and survive the Upside Down, again, as he fights through many close calls (how is he not dead?)
And the party lives with the guilt.(i cant do summaries, but this is before season 5 btw, was to chicken to post it before it came out)

Max is quiet, when he finally manages to look at her again. Her brows draw together slightly, pausing.
“But,” she whispers, in the space between them. “Will is a boy.”
Mike feels new tears well up behind his lids.
“Max.”
Something shifts in her expression, her mouth parting slightly.
“Oh.”
It’s quiet. Mike’s mouth pulls itself into a bitter smile. “Yeah, oh.”
or, it’s summer ‘90, and while everyone is off to college, Mike and Max scoop up ice cream in the rebuild Starcourt Mall, reluctantly bonding over their shared hate in children (and Mike’s little sister and idle friends) who just can’t seem to leave them alone.
or, 5 years later it isn’t Robin and Steve working at Scoops Ahoy: it’s Max and Mike.

POST S5! I stick with what happend in canon, so it's post s5. Soooo we got closeted, mourning, very very sad Mike wheeler. Though, this will probably take a long time to get with them together so Idk, minimal planning so come for a ride with me.
Mike's friends have all moved on from their past, but he just can't. With everyone he loves busy, and mostly moved away, he has nobody to talk to about his problems. So instead, he lets out all his sadness, anger and (ahem, yearning) In his journal that he decides to type up. All he wants to do is reach out, but finds himself stopping each time. Only, when he is trying to send his most recent manuscript, he sends the wrong package.
Chapters have parts of Mikes journals and internal thoughts, to what else is happening in his life with him not narrating it.
