In fact, Brainstorm spends seven minutes locked into a state of sheer terror, his optics fixed on Perceptor’s stony, unmoving expression as Perceptor works over the dead console, speaking low and steady to Rodimus on the Lost Light until even the emergency short range comms give out. After that, it’s eleven minutes of wild fleeing in root mode over rough terrain in a howling blizzard that makes using anything other than their legs inadvisable. Brainstorm is pretty certain the electromagnetic interference is so intense he could fly nose first into rock and not know it until the second of impact.
Perceptor's still going through some things after the sparkeater incident. The second sparkeater incident, which is a lot of sparkeater incidents to have in such a short period of time. Brainstorm is too. They're both working through it. A temporary stranding on a survey mission gone wrong gives them some time to work through it a little faster.

“He’s alive, my darling,” his mother told him. In the dream, she sounded so certain. The clan symbol on her obi seemed to glow, a warm, shining thing that cast all darkness and doubt aside. “Go and bring my grandbaby home, okay?”
Or: Leonardo grew up in a Hidden City orphanage, but he had a home waiting for him all along.

“Gio,” the probably imaginary turtle replies.
Leo’s mouth runs off before he can stop it. “Just Gio? Like Cher?”
God, he thinks. That was stupid, Leo. Not the time or place, Leo. You’re in the prison dimension. You’re dying here and you can’t even cut the jokes now? Raph was so right about you.
But the imaginary turtle surprises him by smiling slightly, the corners of his mouth pulling just barely upwards in a way that somehow completely transforms him. Not the time or place for jokes or smiling at them but here they are. Like company.
Or: a long-lost brother takes the long way home.

Summary
The road to recovery is never simple, and sometimes it even seems impossible. For the four brothers, it certainly wasn’t easy, but their lives are slowly beginning to return to normal—or at least, for three of them.
Bored and feeling tension between him and his brothers, Leo starts making more frequent trips to the Hidden City, much to the displeasure of the rest of the family. The balance between his outings and time spent in the lair is completely disrupted when Leo meets a new friend.
To say that his brothers aren’t too fond of this new acquaintance would be an understatement. However, Leo decides not to worry about their opinions, as for the first time in a long while, he feels happy to be able to talk openly with someone.

Out from his shoulder extended a red semi-transparent mass, tendons twisting amongst veins, throbbing in tandem to his own heaves. Roots dug into the space where its end met Leo’s skin. It clamped down tight enough that Leo’s flesh turned a pale off-white, and it sank in deeper every second that the structure didn’t dissipate. The arm didn’t look like the one Raph usually formed, a thin yet solid outer exterior, but like a jagged glove threatened to swallow Leo whole.
Leo took one breath, then another. His vision went blurry, one eyeline’s path crossing with another, until the only thing he could see was the pulsing prosthetic as it slowly tightened its crushing hold on the remaining shards of the fire alarm. It wasn’t that something was wrong, anymore. Leo was wrong.
And he wasn’t alone.
Or, in a mystic accident, Leo becomes the unwilling bearer of his brothers' ninpō. In the onslaught of three foreign presences in his mind, it's not easy to keep ahold of himself. It's all he can do not to suffocate under his own family's love as he struggles not to forget where his brothers end and where he begins.
Or, when, "I'm nothing without them" becomes, "I'm nothing but them."

A time loop.
Yes, that was the most simple term for it. A single phrase that redefined time as he knew it, as the world knew it. If he were to condense the phenomenon down into a thesis he would hold the science world in his three green fingertips. Or even come a little closer to deciphering the complex world of mystics and alchemy..
However, the essence of the matter was lost to him. Just because of the fact that for the life of him, he couldn't figure out why the loops were happening. And what’s worse… The time between loops was getting shorter and shorter. With seemingly no pattern.

A fun little twist on the: "Leo gets stuck in a mystic time-loop" archetype (which i eat up like a starving man) this time from a certain soft shell's POV!!
Where Leo's been conditioned to think that he has to do this alone, and his brothers, (or rather, one stubborn scientist) struggle to reverse the effects of the curse. Both the obvious physical effects, and the things hidden behind vault, lock, and key.(Takes place on the day of the movie - the morning before Leo loses the key.)

Leo waited. His leg was growing painfully numb under the ice. He wanted to rip the pack off and heave it across the room where it could shatter on the floor. Instead, he forced himself to stay quiet as he watched everyone disperse on their assignments, feeling his heartbeat inexplicably rise in his chest until he finally couldn’t stand it anymore.
“And me?” Leo looked to Splinter. “I know portaling is kinda off the table right now, but, you know, plans are still kinda my thing. Just give me a minute—an hour max—and I know I can come up with a place for us to stay...” Leo’s voice faded as Splinter placed a warm pink hand on top of his own, making it lay still.
“Do not worry, my baby blue.” He said, giving the back of his hand a pat, a soft smile reaching his furry face. “I know exactly where we will go.”

Leo knew losing an arm would be a hard change. He just didn’t know exactly how many changes he'd have to deal with. Turns out that narrowly avoiding the Krang apocalypse doesn't mean everything goes back to normal.
(Or my traumatized turtle boys spend some time recovering in the countryside because the author was listening to Noah Kahan’s Stick Season album A LOT)

Leo blinks, and the wetness in his eyes spills out, and Raph just wants to pick him up. Carry him somewhere safe. Leo has always been larger than life, but right now he looks impossibly small.
“Hey, hey,” Raphael soothes, the same way he has a thousand times before, after bad dreams and skinned knees, “you’re okay. Raph’s here, you’re okay.”
Those gold eyes slide to the side, looking at a point behind Raph. Leo’s arm moves, and something cold and solid presses against Raph’s chest. It’s the key, and Leo’s hand is trembling so hard that Raph’s closes around it instinctively, taking the weight of it from him.
Because he’s Leo, the corners of his mouth quirk into a smile.
“I told you,” he says hoarsely. It somehow manages to sound wry, like they’re in on a joke together. “I got it.”
Raph is seconds too late getting to Leo in the warehouse, and Leo is taken by the Krang instead.

The son of a bitch had the nerve to monologue as his goons bound Leo’s hands together. “Phyllobates terribilis. The golden dart frog. An endangered species native to Colombia’s rainforests.” Someone stuffed a balled-up rag into Leo’s mouth. It tasted rank, but unlike the sicky sweet chloroform he was rapidly becoming familiar with. “It’s also known as the golden poison arrow frog, did you know that? Fitting name. After all…”
A gloved hand shoved Leo toward the tank as the cover was removed. Face mere inches away from the surface, Leo’s vision swarmed with hundreds of coiled, fanged serpents that writhed within the too-small confines of their tank. Cylindrical as Donnie’s various vats of chemicals, the tank almost seemed to shudder as its inhabitants pressed themselves against the sides.
“A single brush against its skin is enough to stop the heart.”
Something in the back of Leo’s head, primal and small, screeched at him.
or, Leo gets captured by the EPF. It wouldn't be too bad if Bishop, the head scientist, wasn't so intent on making his experiments so personal. Bishop's actions are designed to make Leo feel weak and inhuman, little more than a beast. The worst part? It's working.
