“Uh.” Sero felt lightheaded. “It’s kind of hard to, like, explain.”
“Oh.” Todoroki replied. Sero sucked in a slow breath, keeping his eyes glued to the screen, praying he would leave it at that. “Well, you could show me, then?”
In which Todoroki thinks dirty talk is fake news, Sero is a reluctant teacher, and Todoroki turns out to be a natural.

The first time you see him is Day 1 of Sburbian Mythology 101.
The lecture starts in two minutes and the flow of students into the hall has slowed to a trickle, which is how you notice out of the corner of your eye a pale human in all red sauntering into the room, wearing a set of douchey shades in perplexing defiance of the torrential rainstorm that's been plaguing the city all week. In fact, you register, he seems to be the only one in the hall to not be drenched or at least somewhat wet, as if he's somehow managed to convince his clothes to ignore the godawful downpour outside.
You're about to turn back away when he stops and seizes up mid-stride, the abrupt tension in the human's posture visible even from a distance. He's looking in your direction, you realize, and though the sunglasses are in the way, you have an unshakable feeling that his eyes are staring straight at you.

As he stared at Tavros, John could feel a connection snapping into place in his mind. He knew that there was supposed to be a definite difference between the platonic hate humans knew and the romantic hate Tavros felt as a troll, but it was hard for him to imagine the trolls' point of view. No matter how many times and ways people tried to explain romantic hate to him, he couldn't understand the real significance of those emotions. But he saw it now, on Tavros’s face. That was it. That was the attachment Karkat was talking about. Not love, but not completely unlike love, either.
