    Summary

The first drag is like coming home, if home wanted to slowly kill you through suffocation. It’s delightful, and grounding, and he doesn’t feel even a little guilty about lying to Dana because she’ll never find out. Not while he’s wearing Trinity’s jacket so his doesn’t smell like lies.

Sweet smoky freedom. It feels too good. Too easy.

    Summary

Dennis knows he's not the best when it comes to self-care. Or, he wasn't for a long time. Living with Trinity has made it possible to care for himself again, but sometimes he forgets that he's not alone. That he can ask for help and he doesn't need to work himself into an early grave.

Or, Dennis has trouble asking for help and is going to die on his hill. Until he realizes he shouldn't.

5+1 things, in which Dennis is sick/injured/etc, and everyone else made it their problem. And the one time Dennis came to them because he was down so bad, but they were happy he finally trusted them before he bit the dust.

    Summary

A new, sickly sort of tension had grown between Dennis and his little group of people. They’d probably started making connections, theorising about his trauma. He’d have to tell them eventually, before something happened that sent him truly into the loony bin.

    Summary

“Come on, kid,” someone says, rubbing his sternum with bruising fingers. Dennis desperately tries to swat the hands away, the bone already sensitive from the weight of the patient from just moments ago. “Open your eyes, Whitaker, come on. Look at me. Open your eyes.”

He twitches, his limbs flexing in odd and tight angles as he tries to expel the memory of the pain. He tries to speak, not to answer the question but to ask for help, help, anyone, anyone at all, his mom or one his brothers or the youth pastor who gives him bandages when no one is looking, just, God, please, please—

The best Dennis can manage is a deep gurgle from his throat.

When he gets seriously injured after an altercation with a patient, Dennis is forced to reveal parts of himself he would rather keep hidden.

It was the lightning strike. That had to be it. It was the only logical conclusion. Though, when it comes to being able to suddenly read people’s minds, Buck supposed there wasn’t a whole lot of logic involved.

Well… Not people. Just... One person’s mind.

    Just… Eddie’s mind.
