Ivan’s fingers tighten over the cold, clammy metal of the microphone as he sings his swan song; a tangled, selfish ball of emotion that overflowed, spilling over the cages of his fingertips, over the hushed murmur of raindrops and over the shadow pressed against the bottom of Till’s shoes.

Till doesn't remember falling asleep. His throat feels hoarse and his eyes burn. He probably cried until he passed out.
His chest still feels heavy. Everything still hurts. It didn't pass, didn't get better. Not that he expected it to.
He looks around, and he’s still in the same room as before. He has to fight the urge to cry again, because he woke up, it means he’s still alive.

At eight years of age, Ivan had bet that Till couldn’t spin around thirty times without stopping. Naturally, Till had set out to prove him wrong. On his twenty-second spin, he had collapsed onto the ground, sweat pooling under his arms, lightheaded.
Grief, he realizes, is the same. He keeps rotating on a single axis, watching the world pass by around him, but his feet remain rooted to the same spot. The condensation on the shower wall that looks like raindrops, blueprints circled in red marker, the jiggly bread pudding served at dinner, the kisses shared between rebels his age at the bar, and even the stars twinkling through the haze of clouds. No matter where he goes, all the distance travelled only leads him back here again.
Till supposes not all of them make it to twenty-three. Not him. Not Ivan.
(Or: A year and a half after the final round of Alien Stage, Till learns how to grow anemones at the rebel base. Remembering Ivan happens somewhere in between)

Till will never give. He's a victim to his shallow emotions, he's his host. He's meant to suffer Ivan.

That fascination never left, not when Ivan started to seek Till out at the playground and not when Till somehow allowed him access to his space. There was no end to Ivan’s curiosity, always some word or action that fascinated him more than the last.
Till was an anomaly to Ivan’s preconceived idea of how the world worked, and his hunger to learn more could never be sated.
